Routines/Drills for Range

I'm currently looking to start possibly competing in LD events this spring. I was wondering if anyone had some tips or drills they would recommend?

1) Swing as hard as you can
2) Practice teeing the ball up as high as you can & hitting UP on it
- Good drill for this from what I've heard is putting an empty box of balls about 1 clubhead in front of the tee and try not to hit it
3) Swing as hard as you can
4) Concentrate on "squatting down" at the start of the downswing and "pushing off" the ground as you come through the ball
5) Keep your head behind the ball
6) Keep the rear shoulder closed as long as you can before coming through the ball
7) Swing as hard as you can

These are the usual tips I've seen. I'm trying to increase my clubhead speed over the winter and am going to practice all of these things while doing overspeed training in an effort to swing ~130 by the start of next season (March - April here in NY weather dependent). Would be a gain of ~15mph give or take.

All good points. I try to keep in mind that I'm gathering speed going down, when I'm trying to hit a big one. I'm pretty long, but have to be patient at the transition......

Can I suggest getting to a trackman /flightscope,,,I started LD back 15 years ago but shoulder tear took me out ,, 3 years ago started back after a few operations ,,and only compete in senior Div,,,but when I started back I practice a lot of what you are doing know and found ,,that once in awhile I would catch one ,,but in LD yes it only take's one but now add nerves,,,people watching you,,it takes a lot of focus.

 

tips to supplement the above

-have a plan when you go to range ( don't just swing hard and hit balls)

-hit a few irons first get the blood flowing ( you need to be very loose)

-Develop a routine in LD you are on a time clock ( hit in 6 ball sets under 3min)

-stay loose ( I bring my ipad sometimes with a few LD videos like Jamie S,Jason Zubek) when u take a break watch them it just brings good thoughts)

-I have a small ES12 radar it is a few bucks but I think its worth it ,,I hit at about 90% until I see BS and CHS are up and feel good

-Only then do I go 100% and maybe only 15 to 20 balls

-Leave with good thoughts (you are not going to be on every day ( if you not feeling it go workout)

^ Good tips. I've noticed I haven't increased my speed at all going by the PGA SS monitors. I'm still stuck around the 120 max range. I've gotten as high as 123, but that was with a very light shaft on the GBB. I need to start consistently doing overspeed training, because just going and hitting balls isn't helping. I've done overspeed a few times, but not nearly enough. I have my old shaft/grip, but am considering putting lead tape on the bottom to give the sensation of some weight at the bottom.

Can I suggest something ,,,try keeping your grip soft on the takeway just slight finger pressure ( you wont lose the club) then when you come down about have way squeeze the left ring and index finger almost like your pulling in,,keep in mind center face and control ,,,you will gain CHS
