Hogan Apex 73 offset ?

hello all

wondering if the 73 Apex had much offset / As you can see by the pic I took of the equalizer

there is a fair bit of offset. I had previously flattened lies and modified the loft.

Wondering if that has created more offset ? Can anyone send a pic of there E if they have the 73 Apex ?

I know there are a few Hogan's out there with some offset but that looks off to me ( might just be 'coz it it's a lefty though...) FWIW my '74 Directors have much less off set that pictured

golfnut - how much loft did you knock off? As well as increasing offset, you'll also lose bounce in the sole on a like for like basis with every degree of loft that you strengthen the club.

FWIW, I weakened the E on my Apex IIs probably 2 degrees - the extra loft, bounce and reduced (to almost zero) offset were all welcome changes to me and played well even in firm conditions. I'd be a wee bit concerned about creating negative bounce by delofting a wedge of that vintage - which I'm assuming doesn't have much front to back sole camber.

I cant remember will have to look at the specs when I first purchased them. But I know I have increased loft by at least 2*

I still hit them very well. Im not a big fan of the look though as I play more with them.

Gotta admit, from the picture you posted, I wasn't expecting you to say that you'd increased the loft.

According to Maltby, the stock loft should be 50*. My first guess is that yours looks to have been bent considerably stronger at some point.

If not, and that amount of offset is independent of the loft, then I'd suspect some custom trickery. From what I've seen, Hogan irons tended to become gradually more offset from the first Apex models through to the early '90s models, but you look to have more offset than my Apex II. My understanding is that old-school clubmakers could bend offset into a hosel using a lead pad and possibly a leather-faced mallet, though I've never seen the technique explained.
