Zepp Swing Plane Accuracy

Recommended Posts

So I've been playing around with the Zepp analyzer and I don't expect perfection for <$100, but I'm having a few concerns with the swing plane numbers I see.

I'm getting constant ~+4-10% swing plane (and hand plane) numbers denoting an OTT swing path, yet I am confident I'm coming from inside out. I hit about 45 balls with a 4 and 8 iron today and didn't see a slice on any, nor a pull (a few skulls and one straight push as I'm working on my grip a bit), 80% draws and the rest relatively straight. I even exaggerated an extended outside takeaway and a strong inside out swing path and it still showed slightly OTT.

My question is, anyone else see this? Do I have a setting/calibration wrong?

Hey MI,

I have found my numbers very accurate. ..I am right on plane or 1° over it, as I like a fade by trade...

-I did use the customer service chat online to set mine up, not sure if you did yourself, but they were very knowledgeable and spent 20mins with me to make sure everything was set up perfectly. I'd recommend that of you did not do it the first time. Good luck!

Fyi: I was using mine against trackman and foresight, this little guy is a GREAT 100 investment IMO.

Best of luck!

Ive always been weary about these 3D trackers (although never used one). I personally prefer the visual or radar tracking methods as it is a more accurate way to measure such metrics.

I would assume that the zepp would need to be calibrated to know "up" to provide an accurate measurement of swing plane.

Have you tried using a visual swing plane measurement system to compare the numbers to?

swing profile, v1 and hudl all provide free options to measure swing plane.

swing profile i use personally just because its alot faster to use, however any of the three will do the trick.

Just my 3c

Cheers

You could swing "over the top" and hit any of the 9 ball flights. So, perhaps the device is reading correctly, but you're just confused with the ball flight rules.

I'd say, scratch the swing plane thought, since it doesn't exist. And focus on learning and understanding the ball flight rules. And yes, swing plane is a myth.

I found that the problem with the Zepp is its ability to really "decipher" the plane/path of the club head versus the hand path. It would nail the hand path fairly well, but was wildly inaccurate in determining the actual club path.

Also, don't confuse an OTT swing with an "over plane" swing path. Coming OTT is not the same as an inside-out path that is higher/above your backswing path.

"And yes, swing plane is a myth" kinda blows my mind..... Are you saying that the importance many of us attribute to the proper swing plane is unimportant or that there is no such thing as swing plane and it is therefore "mythical"?

All that means is that your downswing is 4-10% over your backswing, not that you're outside-in on your swing path. Most likely situation is that you have a very inside takeaway then come a little over it in the downswing, but still approach the ball from the inside.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
