Anyone have any experience with the TecTecTec Rangefinders? Slope or non

Recommended Posts

Just curious. Looks like they have gained a little bit of popularity through Amazon as the amount of reviews has gone up. Just wondering if anyone here has one or any experiences they can share.

Have an older non-slope...just debating on upgrading sometime down the road.

I'm also interested to hear if anyone has tried these rangefinders out. They seem to have really positive reviews on Amazon.

Amazon reviews can be a little hit or miss. You don't actually have to purchase the product to leave a review. I find it a little hard to believe that the TecTecTec rangefinders have more reviews than the Bushnell Tour V3, about 95% of which are positive. Just a thought though, keep me posted if anyone tries the unit out.

True...but you can always just look at the "verified purchase" tag on the reviews.

I just bought one about 2 weeks ago. I'm thinking about returning it. It's my first range finder but I think the aiming might be off. Really hard to get a good reading that I trust to be the flag and not a mound behind the green. I think it cost me about 5 shots Sunday. I would have been much better off just using sprinkler heads.

I'm going to go out later today and play with it some more, see if I can figure out if the aim is off or if it is just operator error. It has a pin seeker mode but that doesn't seem to lock on either so I may just have a bad unit.

As for the Amazon reviews, they are a little suspicious. You have to keep in mind though, there are several packages of the Bushnell finder that are really the same device but they're reviewed separately. Right now the first Bushnell unit shows 500+ reviews and the Tec shows more like 200.

Thanks for the review. The Bushnell units are going to be by far more popular in terms of units bought. Have no doubt there. As far as I know....the only place you see the TTT brand is sold on Amazon. No advertising, etc. Don't really see any threads on them either which is why I wanted to start one. Again, thanks for giving us your thoughts.

Awesome...would love to hear.

On another note, the slope version in on sale right now for $180.

Tempting, but still skeptical.

I bought one just to try.... I have a Garmin S6 and a Redhot lazer... hate the lazer... cant spend the money on the Bushnell Tour X ... so maybe this will hold me over till I can justify the additional cost of that one...

Ok, took it out again this weekend but decided to use the rangefinder properly, ie shooting the flag instead of the stick. Also steadied myself by using 2 hands on the finder.

I have to reverse my earlier statements. The thing works like the champ and the yardages were spot on. Pin seeker mode worked on the first try all but once (figure I used it at least 40 times with my verification shots). This is the non-slope model BTW. Nothing but good things to say about it. Plans to return it have been cancelled.

No. The solution was to finish up. And go home really quick. Grab the ups box. Then hop on the golf cart and head to the tee box. Or in my case today. Driving range.

works pretty good so far... used it on items on the range that I knew the distance...

was pretty much spot on.

my hands are very shaky, so we will see how it works on the golf course... but so far, just fine.. especially for the price

If I go slope, I'm still debating between the TTT and something like the Bushnell 1M. I really like the red display option that the other units have. There has been a few times that I have had trouble reading the black font in low-light conditions. Just haven't decided on whether it's really worth worrying about.

Thanks for the reviews from everyone thus far.

I cant comment on the TecTecTec, but for a similar price from amazon I recently bought the Breaking 80 IS500 (nonslope). The Breaking 80 works great. Granted ive never tested it against other rangefinders, but it seems to give consistent, accurate readings. Pinseeker feature works magnificently.

I was going to get the TTT but the amazon reviews and any other online review made it seem sketchy... almost every review outside of amazon said the exact same thing with the same words

That being said, I would say its worth giving it a shot. If its defective for any reason Amazon will return/replace it very easily.

I have the non slope version. It works great. I compared it with my 3 buddies models several times over the first few rounds and it was always within a yard. So accurate and cheap, i wouldnt spend a dime more.

I used mine on the course yesterday. I had trouble getting it to "lock on" to the flag. I am pretty sure it's user error. But I wouldn't know as I have not read the manual, and don't remember it even having one

The manual is terrible. For something with so few functions it should be way more clear.

Put it into pin seeker mode (you'll see an artificial flag in the viewfinder). Push the power button once to turn on. Target the flag, push the power button once more (don't hold it). It should get the flag. I usually shoot it a few times to make sure it's locking on the right thing. The manual says to move it slowly from left to right across the flag but mine locks instantly.

Ok. I just sent them an email. Yesterday we were playing 9 holes and I could not get it to measure the flag on 10. I have shaky hands. That's why I thought the pinseeker thing would help me. It was 212 on the other guys bushnell. Mine never showed anything less than the 315 to the oak tree behind the green. I could get the front of the green at 180. Also is the yardage shown the adjusted yardage or do you have to use the incline slope that it gives you.

Mine is going back...

I tested it for 2 rounds

one green is a 20 yard up hill shot.. it shows ZERO elevation...

so I went to different spots on the course... does not give me accurate measurements and I have all kinds of time getting it to give me distances to the flag... no problem with it getting EVERYTHING ELSE...

I wish it was not this way. I really think I got a unit that just is defective. Plus my hands are not steady enough for it. The person (she calls herself Sara but her emails are written in a way that says English is not her native language) has been emailing me asking to make it right. But the unit is just not right for me. It's the shaky hands thing.

There are several less expensive slope models like the tec tec tec. Breaking 80 has one that the slope can be turned off. It's the same price as the TTT. My thing is my hands just aren't steady enough. So I will just have to get me a bushnell as its better for unsteady hands. It unfortunately will have to wait until I get more pro shop credits.

Perhaps one of the bulkier sized units might help? I know a bunch of people(myself included) missed that Amazon deal that had the slope version 1Ms for $170. Their warehouse deals still have them for relatively cheap, but looks like they are the returned units so not sure how good they look out of the box. Still check time to time to see where they are at. I know when they show up on the BST they go fairly quickly when the price is good.
