Just a thread to discuss European Tour/DP World Tour tournaments, rather than creating a separate thread for each tournament.

• Adrian Meronk
• Bob MacIntyre
• Yannik Paul
• Rasmus Hojgaard

Good idea for a thread, thanks.  Bob has just shot a 66 (-6) playing with Luke Donald, so doing his RC chances no harm there.

 

As per Nosferatu on Twitter/X, "Only 5 players (white) can reach Bob at #3 this week. Others up to #23 could still make it over the next 2 weeks. Luiten, Smith and Noren are not playing and cannot reach #3 anymore..."

No more difficult to start a new thread for individual events and whatever link or links someone wants to attach - at least the name is up there and the events get identified in the thread list and some needed attention instead of getting buried.

I don't get to watch much DPWT coverage but it is by far my favorite events to watch on television.  The courses tend to be interesting (for a US viewer) and are largely uncluttered with the support structures you see on PGAT events.  You get a better feel for the course.  Plus the commentators tend to let the play do the speaking and not themselves.

FYI, SMS_on_Tour does a ton of WITB for the DP Tour players on their IG page.  Lots of content for players you never get to see normally, including some of the LPGA/LET members.

Aberg is definitely in with a shout and various journalists think he is on the captain's radar.  I think (hope) Luke likes Bob Mac, and it would help him out if Bob keeps hold of the third automatic slot rather than needing a pick.  However, I also think Meronk (who's really good) or Yannick Paul (meh) might overtake Bob.

Disappointing round by Lowry, goes -4 after 5 and then finishes -1 on a low scoring day.

 

He'll get a captain's pick still I'm sure, and hasn't played terribly this year - a lot of top 20s he just couldn't turn into contention - but in an event like this after missing East Lake he really needs to be getting top 10.

I'd love to see a fresh ryder cup team from european tour
Meronk, Hojgaard twins, Yannik Paul, Bob Macintyre, Perez, Straka etc

Marcel Siem would be a mega outside pick because there will be nobody else as pumped up for it as him!

Yeah, there will be some fresh blood this year, although obviously not enough space for all those guys.  We have 7 big names who will definitely be in the team - but only 5 of them will qualify automatically:

 

McIlroy

Hovland

Rahm

Hatton

Fitzpatrick

Fleetwood

Lowry

 

Rose will almost cetainly also be in, making a pretty strong top 8.  I think Straka will be too, as he's had a strong season in America, is in the Tour Championship, and has a good aggressive style (we'll overlook the fact that he considers himself half American 😉

 

So the last 3 will be the final Euro points spot (say, Meronk, MacIntyre, or Perez) plus 2 more.  I think Aberg will be in, so only one spot left.  Personally I hope for Meronk, Bob Mac and Aberg; I'd rather have both Hojgaards or neither! Matt Wallace is an outside shout too.

Hope Donald picks both Hojgaards, Aberg and Wallace.

Fitzpatrick and Lowry will certainly be in the team and probably Justin Rose too. If MacIntyre drops out of the automatic spot, I don't think he will, I think he'll get picked anyway.

 

Aberg is a seriously good player but I just can't see him being picked this early.

 

Matt Wallace is well placed in the Czech Masters and he plays well at Crans so he may well force his way into the team with some good play this week and next. I think he could do well in the Ryder Cup.

I know it wouldn't be fair as they're the better players but I'd leave Lowry and Rose out in place of Nicolai and Rasmus, I think a pairing of twins would be a feel good story all fans could rally behind

Lowry's a strange one. He's been a world class player for years but is off form just now and putting badly. Missed cut this week too. I really can't see Donald leaving him out though.

Donald should take Nicolai H, MacIntyre and Meronk as captains picks. They have won the last three Italian Opens played at Marco Simone. Meronk also has a 2nd place finish.

Well, Björk is leading this,and after a super solid season on DT. The sharpest of our players, does not hit the ball country mile but is stable as a rock. Saw him live at the Scandinavian event, gives a super professional impression. Both in his golf an in his demeanor.
