If you could ask RJB a question about himself or his putters, what would it be?

Tell me about how your relationship with Scotty Cameron began and what did you two gain from each other?

well, I guess that's two questions.

This one is from the Yahoo RJB fan club

From Todd S. Tksputters.com post on the yahoo board:

Bettinardi started in 1990 making putters for many

companies and in 1992, Cameron was looking for a vendor to make their

putters and they came to Bettinardi. They had a great relationship and

Bettinardi made putters for Cameron/Titleist up to 1998 as they worked as a great team together for over 6 years.  Shigeki Maruyama's dad came to Bettinardi in 1997 looking for Bobby to makea putter for his son and Shigeki loved it. Titleist only wanted to see vendors making product for their company only and that is when the falling out started. So in 1998, Bettinard started to make putters for Japan and USA.

Now since then Maru's Dad is no longer involved with Crew's Golf and thus one of the reasons why Maru has signed with Zomo.

There have been allegations of some wrongful doing by RJB to Cameron/Titleist but itis hard to find hard proof to support those stories. There should be some Lexis/Nexis information about it but, I have never seen it.

"Why isn't every model available left handed?"

If every putter is CMC Milled, the computer map should be able to be flipped along the vertical axis allowing a mirror image putter (ie. lefty) to be created.

The Old Guy would still kill to have a lefty BB-7 (Zing 2 style) but has to live with the BB-18 instead.

From Todd S. tksputters.com

Mr. Bettinardi's machine time is very precious as Bobby only has

so many CNC milling machines and the majority of them are used for the

Hogan and Japan putters and one machine is for the protos.  The

Japanese market does not want many sku's for lefties and the Hogan

company has a good variety of LH putters and there are many lefty

protos at my site.  It takes a very long time to mill these as they

are not mass produced putters as every putter Bettinardi makes is a

CNC one piece technology putter and Bettinardi does not have the

machine time to mill every putter in left handed as each machine is

over $500,000 per machine.  I hope this helps.

I know protos from Todd are $$$ but, I have seen a few on Ebay every blue moon.

I know a guy that is close with Bettinardi and he told me the story about Scotty and Robert. Not sure how many stories there are but I heard one.

Told me robert did something and that caused Scotty/Titleist to stop having RJB making Scotty/Titleist putters.

Wasn't a bad thing. Nothing hatefull just something silly.

Don't really want to say what it was. Sorry guys.

Two very different stories I heard.

1) RJB was caught by Scotty(Acushnet) making extra heads when he was rough milling for Titleist. Supposedly caught with extra finished heads and a lawsuit was filed. Of course I have seen no evidence of such a lawsuit and this is denied by the RJB folks.

2) RJB wanted to start making his own line of putters and Scotty/Titleist did not like that and so they parted ways. Here is the Official RJB line from the RJB fan club on Yahoo:

Bettinardi started in 1990 making putters for many companies and in

Bettinardi Golf is a full time golf company and makes the finest

putters in the world.

RJB has milled many OEMs putters and is generally regarded as one of the best millers around.

Some putter makers like to make a few extra for their wall of greatness or whatever you call it. Nothing wrong with that. Just as long as you dont sell them. Not the best thing to do if you are making putters for another company.

Surly that depends on the terms of the contract?????

Maybe the 'extras' were better made?

The simple and true story is that Bettinardi made all the Camerons from 1992 to 1998 and they had a falling out in 1998 and that is when Bobby started Bettinardi Golf.
