Mossy Oak Golf Club - MS

I see that Mossy Oak Nature's Course is opening up in early September. Looks like they have had an event or 2 there prior to the opener, and are offering 'Preview Rates' this fall.

 

Hadn't read anything about it here. Was wondering if anyone had played it?

 

Considering this as an option for an annual golf trip...thinking Dancing Rabbit, Old Waverly, and Mossy Oak.

I haven't played it but know people involved in the project. They are very excited and think it is going to be the place to come visit. I believe they have a connection with Old Waverly which should only mean good think. The Haas family is doing a lot to expand the Mossy Oak name and are proud to have this in their town. If you are in that part of the state then it's going to be one of the places to play.

That is correct.

 

Gil Hanse is the designer. Couple that with who is backing the course and I think we are all in for a treat. A weekend run coupling Mossy Oak with Old Waverly will tough to beat.

I was wondering the same thing. Considering inlcuding it in the Spring golf trip next year but have seen no reviews yet. If you look at the tee sheet online it is wide open every day.

Football season is here. Nothing, and I mean nothing opens up the tee sheet in the deep south like football.

 

George Bryan was on a local radio show yesterday here in Memphis talking about Mossy Oak. Nothing new was really revealed that you can't find or see on the course's website.

 

Before the weather turns I'm going to try to pick a good weekend to go down and play Old Waverly and Mossy Oak.

Trust me I get it. I am a DIE HARD Buckeye fan and am on the couch for many hours on end Saturday's watching college football. I usually slow down the rounds I play significantly during the fall getting tied up with kid's activities and college football. We came down and played the Alabama trail last spring and was wondering if working in Mossy Oak into the rotation was worth it for next year.

I work in Starkville and got the chance to play Mossy Oak Golf Course Friday. The course is very open but the holes are packed in tight. They still aren't completely finished with the course as a few things still seem out of place and the fescue areas need to grow in. Overall, the course conditions are perfect. It's a links style course with lots of bunkering.

If I recall, I looked into playing there the weekend they opened at it was around $150 and up for a round. Even at preview play season

We opted for kirkwood instead just due to the fact it was much more affordable for others in the group

And it was an established complete club.

Played mirimichi today ( ranked #1 in Tennessee ) first time to play it

It's a nice course. Great layout but not sure if I'd rank it first

Really? Mirimichi is #1? Kinda surprised. I haven't played since JT got out of it but it was always a very nice place to play but the Honors Course, Golf Club of Tenn, and a few there in Memphis I think are nicer.

True story. I think 2 years in a row now. Nashville has some incredible courses that are public. And many semi private or full private places around Memphis are in better shape. Invited a couple of friends to club I belong at yesterday and they have played mirimichi, even they commented on what awesome shape my club is in versus many others around the area. Fairways were more plush than many others and better lies thru the whole round.

Sweetens Cove is the number one course in TN according to Golf Week now not Mirimichi.

There are many different lists and none of them the same. Just like golf magazine ranks mirimichi number one this year. Nashville courses right behind it. To each his own

Mirimichi is a nice course, but nothing spectacular. If you are in Memphis, drive an hour west and play The Ridges at Village Creek. After you're done, particularly with the West 9, thank me :))

RE Old Waverly/Mossy Oak

 

Looking at doing a stay and play type deal with a golf buddy and his wife and my wife as well. Anything in the area for the wives to do while we play golf? Spa, shopping, etc?
