Golfer's Elbow/Tennis Elbow Cures?

I had is so bad I literally could not pick up a glass of water. Was not able to play golf for almost three months and had to go to physical therapy. When it first started I tried the various exercises, insert, softer grips, etc. The only thing that worked was switching to graphite shafts. Fortunately there are a lot of good options out there today.

 

Were you practicing a lot off of mats when it got that bad?

 

I just built a set with Steelfibers and may make them my "winter clubs" when we go to mats.

 

Yes, during the winter. We have much better mats now so it is not in issue.

Two things that helped me put golfer's elbow to rest. My shoulder started aching and I went to see an Orthopedic Dr. They prescribed Physical Therapy for my Traps. It involved strengthening these muscles in the back of your shoulder and some stretching for them. That helped the shoulder pain and the elbow pain. The therapist said the lack of support from the traps was causing compensations in other parts of the shoulder and the elbow.

I'm not suggesting that everyone with GE has an issue with their traps. But, much like the golf swing you might have an issue elsewhere in the arm unit that is causing stress in elbow.

2nd thing : I had sensicore inserts put in all of my irons. These fit into the grip end of the shaft and tone down the vibration caused with each strike.

I'm in my 2nd season without discomfort in the elbow.

Had this act up in May, I was on my knees after nine holes one day. Went right to dr, got a cortisone shot. Then I found a client - a little weird - it's a floatation therapy thing. Float in a small pool filled with epson salts - I let my arm dangle to allow elbow to be submerged. Did that for an hour a week, got me able to get back on the tee. I do the theraband religiously at night, and hang from pull up bar every night too. When I play now - it's a combination KT tape, arm band, and compression sleeve. I look like I'm suiting up to play defensive tackle - but lo and behold - has let me play this summer. I just got thru playing four days in a row this weekend - minimal pain. There will be one or two shots a day, usually with wedges, that I feel it. They tell me rest is the real cure, but I'll have time for that when winter hits in a few months. Good luck, some good stuff I found on you tube and an ebook that has some suggestions. I'm taking an anti-inflamatory too, not sure it's helping but I'll try anything.

I was playing a two day tournament in middle of no where Wisconsin this week. Forgot my phone charger. Best thing that ever happened to me. And much to my surprise, when I returned home, found that civilization - and my work - survived without me. Very humbling experience I have to tell you.

I had rather severe elbow inflammation, I googled "climber's elbow", found stretches and exercises to rehab it. Over time it got better but it took a year to rid myself of any discomfort. Deep massage,daily stretches muscle conditioning and patience will heal and prevent recurrence.

All the prep and stretching is good. I had jock itch not too long ago from playing golf in the morning then out in the yard all day, which is like from 4 AM to 10 PM here in the summer, epson salt baths cured that (with a little bit of Apple Cider vinegar) and I found that helped my back and my elbows.

But if the tennis elbow continues to hurt, you can get a cortisone shot but like ONCE a year not many times a month. I used to play a ton of tennis and that creeped up on me every few years and I got 2 cortisone shots over 10 years and it cured it both times with appropriate rest.

I went to Steelfiber for this exact reason and it helps a bit but it's not a cure. Once it heals I'm hoping it will help prevent future reoccurrence.

Thats great to hear at least it did something to help. Now I'm just torn between buying new recoil shafts to put in my Taylormade RAC iron head absolutely don't want to buy used or look for a new set of irons with recoil already installed.
