Ferrules do not fit

I purchased some ferrules for my 76 staff blades they are exact replicas of the originals. They do not fit unfortunately...any tricks you seasoned pro's out there have that might work ?

 

Guy I boight them from said put em in hot water .

 

Any info much appreciated.

Don't fit the shafts????

you can heat and stretch them but be careful not to heat to much and misshape them. Hot water sounds interesting.

I see by your avatar that you are left-handed

 

Maybe you got the right-handed ferrules accidentally.

 

If so, they are counter threaded....screw 'em on backwards

August golf that is funny! Seriously though I assume you mean they are too small to fit the shaft? If that's the case I actually just take a drill but that's approximately same size as the shaft (diameter size wise) and turn it thru the inside of the ferrule by hand in and out a few times. You can use a drill of course but it's easy to take away too much material if you aren't super meticulous. If that's not what you mean be not fitting let us know.

Getting ferrules to fit especially for old club can be a pain. New clubs too for that matter. So many times I find the right ferrule that has the correct OD but not the right ID. I have become very good at drilling out the ferrules to get the right ID. Most ferrules work best when they are friction fit, so it is wise to buy a ferrule tool that helps you set ferrules on a shaft.

 

To drill out, you need to be able to secure the ferrule without squeezing it out of shape. I use the mouth of an old grip to hold it. I would recommend you figure something out other than your fingers. A sharp drill is essential or it will take too much effort to drill and the ferrule will heat up and deform.

Drill by hand is the best way, I think. Maybe, ream is a better word than drill. Little by little, check often.

Never not had a stubborn ferrule go on when submersed in near boiling water for 10 - 15 seconds. Makes them pliable enough to slide on the shaft.

Then set to correct distance before they cool. Use an old grip, cut down to about 1.5", to manipulate the ferrule during install.

 

But I suppose there is a first time for everything. Just that I've not experienced a ferrule sufficiently undersized that required reaming.

Try using a .335 ferrule on a .350 shaft. Maybe I'm too lazy to go boil some water when I've got a drill right beside me.

Sounds like a .355 ferrule for taper tip shaft and you have parallel unitized .370 diameter shafts. You can drill with good drill but I suggest getting correct ones. They are cheap
