Looking for an instructor in San Diego

need help finding a top instructor

I live in San Diego , CA and am trying to find a solid instructor. I've been to a few head pros at some local courses and they have done me good but I need to take my game to the next level. There once was a ranking by golf digest of the top 50 instructors and there were some in San Diego but I don't have that magazine anymore and have been unsuccessful in finding it on-line.

If there is anyone out there that can make suggestions on someone that is considered a top instructor that would be great. I'm a 5.8 handicap but feel like I scramble every round. I am trying to get my handicap to scratch and feel I need the help of an extremely dedicated and knowledgable pro.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'd rather stay in San Diego area (anywhere in San Diego is fine). I currently spend around 10 hours per week at the range working on different parts of the game. I could probably squeeze out a few more hours here and there but obviously my work and wife have something to say about that...haha.

Philosphy-wise, I believe that both the student and teacher need to grow together. I don't believe there is an all knowing seer out there who can teach everyone the game of golf. I don't want an ego-maniac who thinks they can use the same swing for every student. Every person's body has limitations due to prior injuries, body type, flexibility, muscle structure, etc. which means not everyone can take the same mechanical swing and produce the same result. I expect my teacher to be as dedicated to teaching me as I am to learning their instruction. I am willing to change whatever is necessary to step it up.

I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars per hour for someone who seems more interested in getting to their next student than focusing on my game. I'd also rather not have to spend hundreds of dollars per hour...haha.

Anyway....I understand the step from 5.8 to scratch is a ton more difficult that going from 20 to 5.8 but I am very athletic and a complete student of the game. I'm not unhappy with my game, just frustrated that the right game exists in me and I just haven't found it yet. I need the teacher who will help me find it.

I would recommend Brian Gorman out at the AULD/SALT CREEK in chula vista. He charges a fair amount and really helps his student as well as the practice facility that he uses is a top notch practice area.

Kip Puterbaugh, Aviara Golf Academy. He's worked with Loren Roberts and Scott Simpson and some others I don't remember.

I have a appointment with the instructor ranked 3rd in my state tomorrow, so we'll see how well the list works.

I think probably because my work blocks that site for some unknown reason...either that or I'm slightly retarded...haha

Thanks for all the input...I've got my work cutout for me now trying to hunt down the right one. I'm in RB so most of those are a bit far away but definately doable. Thanks again.
