Bethpage Walk-up (Non-black course question)

Looking for some local knowledge.

 

We're planning a buddies trip to Bethpage next weekend. We already have the Black tee time for Sunday and the Red reserved for 2:52pm Saturday.

 

We were hoping to play 36 on Saturday, what are the chances if we show up to Bethpage at 7-8am Saturday morning that we'll get an early enough tee time to get in 18 before we tee off on the red later that afternoon. We haven't been able to get an early tee time via the phone registration system.... (Foursome btw)

 

Or is there a course in the area to try and make a tee time at?

I doubt 36 on Saturday. NYers can call 8 days prior for reservations - can call Saturday [week prior] starting at 7:30 PM. Black at 7 PM - if you don't get within 5 minutes you can almost forget the Black. Saturday is a popular day so to get something early would be extremely lucky on your part. You can call and see if there's a cancellation but that would be like winning the lottery. My understanding is that there are 16 telephone lines open for reservations so you can see the competition.

 

I kinda think you'll run into the same problem with time no matter where you play.

 

EDIT: Just saw that there is a good chance for rain this weekend!

Thanks. We have a back up tee time at 715 at Bergen Point at this point for Saturday morning. We've been calling back to bethpage and tee times are opening throughout the day due to cancellations. Hopefully we can snag a pre 8am tee time due to cancellation that way we can make our 252 tee time easily.

There's a good chance more will open up later in the week as the cancellation deadline nears but locking up 4 spots will be tough. You will probably have better luck splitting up into twosomes and lock up a time close together. If your looking for something other than the Red for the morning i would go with the Blue.

 

Just a heads up make sure you are done by 2 pm at the latest to give yourself time to pay and check in with the starter. Was there two weeks ago and they gave my 6:28 am time away even though I was at the counter to pay around 5:55 am. Luckily i got out 20 min later.

My foursome and I were just talking about that. We all felt that the front 9 of the Blue was as tough as the Black. What do you think? In fact, I think that the Blue's 6th hole is one of the toughest holes on LI.

Personally not at all. Hole 1 of the Black is pretty lackluster but it gets interesting quickly after. If you have length and can hit a draw the 6th is a relatively straightforward hole I feel. I usually just stick to the Red and Black. To each his own though, I'm sure there are hole I find difficult that others would disagree.

Yea were hoping to get lucky with a cancellation this week so we can play blue, we'll see though. We called a couple times today and there were cancellations but none were early enough to make the afternoon tee time work. Fingers crossed.
