Getting Sidelined

Now I'm ticked. I started striking the ball well, and I'm about to be sidelined. I just got MRI results on my left knee back and it seems that I have a major tear :angry22: . So for those who have had the S word to deal with this type of injury, what's the recovery time and the length of time before being able to swing a golf club again?

Hey there,

I have had reconstructions on both of my knees and was 8-10 months for both. During the second one I spent a lot of time putting and chipping. I would also ride in the cart for fun when my friends would play. I was always terrible at short game shots before it because I never practiced it, but the time I spent around the greens during those months after I got off crutches turned a weakness into my strength. I really began to enjoy and I swear those chip shots and pitch shots helped my ball striking when I started to play again.

Do the rehab and use the time to refine your short game.

Bilateral hip replacements at 35 down for about 6 months pre surgery just could not play through the pain anymore. Post surgeries, was about 30-60 days before I started making 80% swings. Started playing a few months out. Shot even par just about 11 months post op. Did not get confidence/trust fully back for almost 18 months.

Hips a lot easier recovery than knees though. Best of luck to you OP

Had shoulder surgery in April. Haven't even thought about swinging a club yet. Doc says 6 months but I have a golf trip in September. Hoping to make it work.

Why did you get an MRI done? Edit: read up on MRI's, seems they don't have too much radiation. Also I wonder how much they bill to your insurance?

Anyhow , just was curious. Hope you get better soon! Maybe wear a knee brace and play thru it?

Thanks for the responses and well wishes guys. I've played while wearing a brace a couple of times since the diagnosis with varying results. The best being a round of 87 with no driver or three wood in my bag and making essentially all 80% swings. The round that I played with the diver and three wood in my bag had me at a 4 over par 40 on the front nine and a very painful 53 on the back nine. I've got a two day member guest this week with 27 holes Friday and 18 Saturday and then my State Bar Association Tournament next Tuesday and that'll do it for me for golf for the foreseeable future as surgery is on the 28th of this month. And I really don't look forward to seeing what the billing is for this little procedure.

Just another in a long list of examples as to why you never go to the doctor :crazy:

Nah, but really, get steep on a Madden or NCAA14 dynasty or similar. Learn to crochet. Put your clubs and all golf-related stuff in a closet and block this website. Forget golf exists--don't tease yourself while you're out.

Well, I had a massive fail on blocking this site while down...I've been stalking it daily since surgery. Happily, however, I am back to putting anyway.
