Myrtle Beach rules and etiquette

So I'm playing golf there this week and hit a snap hook. Fairways are so damn close to each other it lands in the next fairway. So I go over to hit it. Damn older woman who's playing in with a group on that hole, drives her cart back to where I hit, picks up my ball and then drives back to her own. I was like excuse me that's my ball. She said I hit it on her hole and she was keeping it since the rule is if you find a ball you keep it. She didn't even really argue, just drove off. I'm standing there open mouthed like, WTF. The folks I was playing with said that's pretty much the mentality of a lot of the local myrtle beach golfers, just drop another ball and move on. So a brand new ProV1 out of the bag, goes to some 400 pound 70 year old woman, who probably doesn't even have the swing to probably use the damn thing.

Shoulda followed her in, found a marshal and threatened to file a police report for stolen property. The consensus here seems to be that the ball is your property (see the real balls at the driving range thread). Either way, I probably would have followed her and asked again for my $4 golfball back. You're a better man than I.

Oh c'mon... it's some old lady and her entire group of friends probably believes that. The guys I golf with would have been rolling on the ground laughing and when they could keep a straight face would have been chiming in with stuff like "You're absolutely right! Don't let him try to tell you otherwise". She's going to get back to her group, show them the ball she found, someones going to tell her it's one of those really expensive ones and she's going to save it for a really special round. That's got to be worth 4 bucks to you.

HAHA that is so funny!!! I would have gotten that ball back even if it meant a nine iron grip to the lady's face! why didnt you be a bit stern with her and demand it back or get the grip?

Nothin keeps a white trash ball stealin' B**** away like a nice red grip mark across the face!!! Besides then the red grip mark would match her neck!

No Laura was almost Natalie like in comparison. You know the worst thing was, if it wasn't bad enough, but she had a short mini and sleeveless outfit on, something like you'd see Paula Creamer or Michelle Wie in. Not a pretty sight folks.

 

Seriously, it was my daughter and I playing and the starter paired us with a couple of older gentlemen. They kind of smirked and said that crap happens all the time to them. I'm still in awe that she was just so proud of herself that she found a ball and drove off like it was status quo.

 

Funny thing is a few holes later my daughter punched one right and went to get her ball. There was a couple of guys driving up who didn't really say anything but as there were two balls next to each other one hers and one from that other group, the look just kind of said they expected her to pocket their ball. In fact the guy was getting out of his cart with another ball in hand. She of course checked which was hers, hit it and moved on. The guys just kind of said thanks, like it was something unexpected.

 

I guess it's a different mindset. It also wasn't one of the "top tier courses" so I am guessing scarlet head holder explains a lot.

I play in myrtle beach all the time (have a condo down there) and never heard of such rule or seen such actions. Which course did this occur on?

Waterway Falls. BTW, not that nice and the pro shop was way too smoky and manned by rude staff. The lady who got the clubs on the skyway ride was good and the people taking off the other end were pleasant. Course was not that great, greens very slow.
