New irons...couple questions

I just picked up a set of 4-pw mp57's to replace my ancient 845's. I went and hit them today and they felt amazing. I wasn't great with the 4 iron....but, oh well. So my questions:

1. The shafts felt flexible to me. They're s300's. I have the same shafts in all my clubs...but these felt differnt. They felt like I was loading them more than usual. Could it be a swing weight thing?

2. I'm not tall...like 5'9, should o have these guys "fit" for me? Even if I got them well...will have the shafts cut and irons bent make that big of a difference?

3. The grip are in good shape and is like to save them..can most shops remove them without damage?

First of all 's300' is not a shaft model, it's just a flex designation. True temper has a lot of different shaft models that come in s300 and they can have very different stiffness profiles.

If you really do mean that they are all the same model shaft (such as dynamic gold), then it's possible that different swing weights can result in a different flex - but it would not be typical for the range of stock swing weights that are generally used. Different playing lengths can effect this a little as well and different head specs (such as the BBGM and bore depth) can also play a part in how soft/firm the shaft will feel. So there are a few possibilities.

2. It's always good to have at least the lie angles checked - although you can do that yourself if you feel up for it. All it takes is a dry erase marker. You don't need the labels but the general method is covered here:

If the long irons are giving you a bit of trouble, then it's possible you might benefit from shorter playing lengths. But that generally means adjusting both the length and the swing weight so generally takes more then just cutting down the length.

3. Sometimes - depends on the shop but unless they've been blown on, it's not always quick or easy and there is always a risk they could be damaged in the process. Also depends on the specific grip model. Some builders might take it on, others might not. Personally, if any length adjustment is needed, I'd suggest you just choke up until it's time to change the grips.

The 845s used the Tour Step shafts, which, to me, S flex always felt more on the threshold of X flex. But if you played TT S300's in those, then Stuart G's comments suffice.
