RIP Carol Mann

38 time LPGA winner Carol Mann passed away yesterday at 77.

My friend and I had the pleasure of meeting Carol Mann at the AT&T tent at Medinah in 1999. What I remember most is that she was an excellent embassador of the game. She was the kind of person you meet for the first time, yet you felt you’d met her before... without asking, she quietly signed a few items for my friend and I while we we all sat and enjoyed the hospitality services ... watching the early players in the final round of the PGA that year. She expressed an enthusiasm for the game like most of us... it was an absolute pleasure... May she rest in peace.

i remember her playing in the Philippines in 1976 and 1977 in the Colgate Palmolive event at the posh Manila Golf Club together with many of the LPGA stars at the time including Beth Daniel,JoAnne Carner,Sandra Palmer, Jan Stephenson,Sally Little, Betsy King and a very young Nancy Lopez among others..

 

i was so thrilled to watch the best ladies at that time play and we never had an LPGA event anymore after that here..

 

as part of the TV coverage crew we got to play the Monday after he event and i remember hitting a 5-iron to a 165-yd uphill par3 where i saw Carol Mann hit a 5-wood the day before..

 

i was only 31 then but now i have to use a 3 wood to reach that green..

 

i guess i was still pretty strong then

I worked for years with Carol's brother. A wonderful and dignified family. Rest in Peace Carol and comfort to your family.

When I was really into The Hardy 1-plane swing, I used to hang out in the discussion boards on his website. She used to post quite a bit and was always kind, polite, and very knowledgeable. RIP Carol.

This is an old article but gives more details and insight into Carol’s life. I also used to hang out on Jim Hardy’s forum a number of years ago and remember her posting there. It is interesting that she and Jim were married and divorced. It speaks to both of their characters that they remained close friends and respected each other’s work and accomplishments. I would have liked to have known her.
