Finding lost cell phone on the course at night

Yesterday I played in our Thursday night men's league. We got done with our regular 9 holes and were playing a few extra before heading out. On the next to last hole we were playing I noticed that my cell phone was missing out of our golf cart. I searched everywhere in the cart for it with no luck. So our foursome starts back tracking through the past few holes and have no luck finding it. At this point it is starting to get dark and the sprinklers are coming on. So I go home, which is about a 15-20 minute drive. I grab my iPad and pull up the "find my iphone" app. Sure enough, my phone shows that it is sitting on the golf course. So I ask my wife if I should wait til morning and head over there at first light and see if they will let me grab a cart and go search for it. But she brought up a good point that if the sprinklers run through out the night, the phone may not make it through the night. So I grab a heavy duty flashlight and my ipad and drive back to my course.

When I get there, there is no one left in the golf shop or the cart return building. I try to go into the restaurant and they are closed. I was going to let them know I was going to go out on the course to look for it. So I said screw it and start walking out on the cart path into the course. Because I wanted to get in and out as fast as I could, I pretty much jogged the whole time. Finally I got to a point where I was near the phone icon on the map. So I start walking until I am right on top of it. Turn the flash light on and start looking all over in the rough and in the tree areas where we were most of the day. No luck. I am getting frustrated now because I know it has to be in this area but don't see it. So I start to make my way towards the fairway and something catches the corner of my eye in the flashlight beam. Sure enough, phone is sitting on top of a hill just off the fairway in the rough. I pick it up and it is a little damp but everything works fine. So I start jogging again and high tail it off the course. I kept thinking the whole time that I hope someone in the surrounding houses doesn't call the police as me running around in the dark with this big black flashlight doesn't look good. But was able to get off the course and back to my truck without anyone noticing. No more cell phone coming out of the golf bag during a round.

Glad you found it. Losing a phone is an experience that takes one time to learn your lesson. When I was just out of college, I lost my blackberry (I still believe it was stolen but that's a story for another day). Swiping my credit card for buying a new phone, after I had just bought a new phone 6 months earlier, was not something I want to ever have to do again!

you can access the find my iPhone app from another iPhone as long as you know your I tunes password. Also there's a little icon in the corner that will make your phone play a high pitch beeping sound if you think your close to where it's showing it is.

For next time

wish i'd known this last year. My son dropped his iphone first time out on a full 18 course....close to darkness....walked back 9 holes only to find it later on the 18th in the middle of the fairway...just caught the corner of my eye luckily...didn't find it walking back 18 to 9 lol. and it was a hell of a walk. but found it and all ended well. what did we do without these phones before?

Reminder... make sure the cup holder in your cart does not have the hole with slots in the bottom as it'll slide right through after a few bumps... if it takes that long.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
