Deterioration of Golf...Cause and Effect

Hey Gang, Its been a while!!!! Life has derailed golf,

need a little Boost... you know the "blow sunshine up the you know what."......

First of while I wallow in my self pity and discuss..... the real underlying question is.

In your opinion what is the causes of deterioration of your golf game?

Age?

Life?

Lack of Practice?

Focus?

Wagers?

My game has likely reached rock bottom. Reaching low scores of mid 70's, 74,77,78 etc and now cant do any better than 86 and yesterdays abysmal 95.

Now the straight answer is All of the above. I get it...but at this time in my life, I use Golf as a Vacation... its to get away have fun... But honestly now, I am NOT having fun...... Getting a little older, kids.... no practice time. Just getting away to the course is all the time I have now.

If I had one facet to absolutely focus on to at least maintain the level of golf thats fun, What would you all do?

if age is an issue, keep the body in shape and doing your best to maintain a healthy life style.

Find was to practice etc.

Im sure MANY here have fallen into the exact same pitfalls.... lost the the drive, hit "real life" issues.... but I am also sure some of you found ways to bounce back out of a slump or made golf more fun in other ways or enjoyable.

I dont travel/vacation much if at all... so that is again why I used golf as my get away..... But with the lack of enjoyment and more frustration of paying money to be pissed off at the course and actually rather be working and making money.....

Any tips to inject back into the golfing enjoyment?

Thanks in Advance!

First off...happy holidays, and good to see you here.

For me...age & advancing arthritis. I can spend hours chipping, pitching, bunkers and putting practice, but find myself hurting when playing. But I do still enjoy being on the course, especially walking.

Knowing that I'm not going to score "like I use to" does frustrate me, but so does not being able to find my car keys - neither really first world problems.

That's my take. Feel free to drop an email, and in the meantime I'll try to find additional feelings to express.

Don't throw in the towel - it's golf, and what you are feeling is something everyone deals with at some point in time.

Rough run there, Exactice. I hope you find your way.

You know what's fun? A par 3 muni with three clubs, 2 buddies, and a couple of beers. You don't even keep score. Its just for your mental space, to get, outside and away, and you can do it in an hour if nobody is around.

But if you do that often enough, the touch will come back. And the competitive fire might come back. And the joy might grow. And you might find something. Or you might decide to bring the kiddos, and find a different kind of golf game.

Good luck.

Hey Augie, Happy Holidays to you and your family. Its funny I accepted family and life would potentially affect the game, but in between my 1 & 3 yrold I found a HOT spot had a run of 7X's for a month or 2, then reality back to my average low 80's then collapse and it just wont bounce back.

With that oddly age (im not that old...) but my right wrist hurts like hell now almost weekly after golf.....even now as I type from yesterdays madness its throbbing.

Funny you bring the perspective of losing my keys I agree.... cant find the second set and I need to turn in my lease next month.... Im feel just as pissed about shooting 43 55 yesterday. LOL.... and 40 48 the week before.

Anyways..... Just trying to say at this point... I can put 1 nine together.... but collapse the other nine...is it age.....is it brains... is it lack of practice.......

Anxiously waiting and I didnt want to burden you with my self pity but I may drop that email!

Hey Tokeyb, Yups rough run..... Havent thought about the par 3 since I was 15.... .. maybe need to just run away and try.... I did about a month ago, slam a 6 pack on the front 9 of around I played and was having way more fun.... BUT alas I do play with co-workers and clients on a weekly basis so getting too slammed in front of them might not be ideal BUT I can assure you I DID have fun... That was one of the more pure enjoyable rounds I had..

As for the Kiddos....I will say I do enjoy the "scientific" portion of the game a LOT....and I am anxiously looking forward to when my kids can "responsible" swing clubs as they have plastic sets and I did by a Jr's PW for my 3 yr old, but the 1-1/2 steals it and smacks TVs and cabinets with it so its in the closet out of reach LOL!........ I cant wait though when i can take them to the range I am looking forward too that for sure!

anyways.... I might need to walk over to the Par 3 course.... ..its about a 5 minute drive from my house... just gotta convince the wife to watch the kids....
