In Atlanta area for work

Hello all,

long time lurker here, but a big fan of the site. I am traveling to Atlanta next week from Thursday to Tuesday for work/play. While I am there I plan on seeing a new(to me) coach, so one day will be spent out and around Cartersville working on my swing. While I am there I would like to play once or twice and practice a few more times during the 4 days that I have available to me. I am wondering what/where would be some good options that might be in open for winter golf. Also are there any good practice facilities around, I will have a good deal of time to kill while waiting for a a follow up meeting on Monday evening. Basically down time from Friday at noon until Monday at 4.

Not sure which coach you're going to see in Cartersville, but Cartersville CC is one of the best courses in GA. It's private, and seems to have a small amount of members, but always seems open to hosting junior tournaments. Because of that, I've been able to play there a dozen times and it's a very laid back feel for a private club, so maybe they could work you in. Any chance to play there would be great. I'm about 45 minutes east of there, so not sure about any other close courses. As far as practice facilities at public courses, BridgeMill in Canton is the best I can think of. It has 2 putting greens with lots of area to chip around them, a green for wedge shots with bunkers, and a pretty good range (I would assume it's on mats right now with all the recent rain). Lots of public courses in Cherokee County about 30 minutes east: Bridgemill, Bradshaw Farm, Towne Lake Hills, Woodmont (I think it's private now, not positive), and a few more. As far as private courses around: Govenors Towne Club, Bentwater, Eagle Watch, Hawks Ridge, Indian Hills, Brookstone. Some of those are ClubCorp I believe. Lots of good options around, just depends on budget and what courses you can get on.

I'm seeing Mike Granato, I am not sure if hes at the CC or not. The weather looks pretty foul for next weekend. Looks like I might be trying to find someplace indoors to practice, unless the forecast changes. I am booked at the athletic club for Sunday, but was hoping to get an afternoon round in on Monday. Maybe I will see if my pro can get me in at Cartersville on Monday, how long does it take to get from Marietta to there?

Probably close to 30 minutes from Marietta to Cartersville. I don't think he's at the CC, Scott Hamilton is. I've heard the name before, but don't know where he's at. If you're in Marietta, the Marietta City Club's a fun track. It's a short course that you can tell had to be squeezed together to get 18 holes. Also, the Marietta Country Club is one of the better private courses around, they've got 3 courses. Not sure how much you want to travel to practice, but the Georgia Golf Center is probably 30 minutes from Marietta. They have a dozen or so covered stations, and I think half of those are heated. Pretty close to me and I've never been, but I know a lot of people practice there that aren't members somewhere.

Cartersville is closed on Mondays, so you can try to see if people will be out there, but it might not happen. If you are staying in Marietta, your best range bet might be to head out to Legacy Golf Links or Marietta Golf Center. If you want to chip and putt as well, I'd head to one of those public courses listed above - probably BridgeMill. The private courses open on Monday are going to be pretty limited - might try for Ansley - Settindown Creek if your pro can make a call there. Otherwise, public will be your best bet on a Monday. Woodmont still has public play, so you can still play out there.
