Miura mb-001 build

I’m totally smitten with the look and feel of the mb-001 and am heading down the path of building a set. Coming from playing mizuno mp-64 and apex 99 previously (I try not to switch too often) so not too far off from what I’ve played in the past. I had a couple of questions for those of you who have been playing Miura clubs through the years...

First: I have gone to a 45* PW which allowed me to tighten up wedge gapping with 50-55-60 at bottom of bag. I want to keep this intact but am cautious on taking 2* of loft off the mb-001 - any thoughts on impact to bounce/turf interaction, etc?

Second: I am debating whether to swap out the 4 iron or the 4-5 irons with something like a cb-301 for a dot of extra forgiveness and distance. But I hate the idea of having so much offset on my longer irons. Any views on best ways to blend with the longer irons would be most appreciated.

Thanks guys

If you increase the loft on your wedges, you'll get an increase in bounce. If you decrease the loft, you get a decrease in bounce. The rule of thumb is that the amount you increase or decrease in loft has a corresponding effect on bounce.

So, if you de-loft your mb-001 wedge by 2 degrees, you'll also decrease the bounce by 2 degrees.

(N.B. I've read at least one post that said altering the bounce by 2 degrees made no difference. All I can say is, this is NOT the opinion of of most people I've talked to & certainly not the opinion of the club builder who built my set & bent my 56 degree wedge 1 degree weak.)

From online specs, I found the mb-001 Pitching Wedge has a bounce of 5 degrees. So, de-lofting by 2 degrees will give you a wedge with a bounce of 3 degrees. That's not much bounce. The effect on turf interaction will depend on your swing plane, also the kind of course you usually play, eg a lush parkland course vs a drier, harder seaside "links" style of course. If you've got a steep plane, you may find the de-lofted wedge digging quite a bit, especially on a lush, soft course. On the other hand, if your course is drier with tight lies, a low bounce wedge might actually be helpful.

Also, de-lofting fractionally - FRACTIONALLY - increases the offset on a club.

I haven't played much with mb-001's, but I play a set of Baby Blades (like you, I played Hogan Apex for years, the 1973 model. Still got them. Great clubs!) I have the 2-PW in the BB's & find them surprisingly easy to hit in the long irons. Every review I've read of the mb-001's say they are very forgiving - but they are still a blade, so they may not be everyone's cup of tea. Personally, I find looking down at a compact blade iron head & thin topline gives me confidence, much more than a cavity back with a larger head & thicker topline. But I'm a purist. I can't really suggest much on blending cb's & blades. Sorry.

Good luck with the set! Hope it works out for you.

As a shallow swinger I have no problem with the bounce difference but a steeper swinger may have a different experience. I believe it's less drastic than most people believe overall but there is a difference and it will be hard for anyone here to tell you how it will affect you

I find the cb 1008s to blend nicely with the miura blades. No experience with the cb 301s but they have a lot of offset and that would make the transition less smooth to me.
