Bluffton SC Private Clubs...Which One?

I am in the process of contemplating relocation to Blufton, SC. My wife and I are considering joining a private club. We have narrowed it down to Oldfield, Berkeley Hall and possibly Belfair or Hampton Hall in this order. I am trying to determine what club would be the best fit. My wife is a casual golfer. I am a mid single digit handicap in my mid 50's. I am looking for a club with a fair amount of single digit golfers who have regular games on weekend morning and maybe a weekday or two. I have nothing against higher handicaps but it is nice to play a game every so often where 3 or 4 guys can play straight up with no strokes. I am not interested in big money games or a private club filled with MR. BIG types playing $100 skins, just throw $20-30 in a pot and play skins or some sort of points game. I don't know any members at any of the clubs so it's hard to get a real pulse for what goes on. Oldfield is the top contender, they only do about 15,000 rounds a year and have annual membership for $5000. Any input would be helpful.

 

Also, I would prefer a club with nice, sincere, down to earth members.

Only one I can speak to is Belfair unfortunately. But they would definitely satisfy some of your needs. I play with the asst super there once or twice a year and theres some folks in your age/handicap bracket there. I would at least reach out to the membership director there and get a tour. Place is beautiful.

I’d second Belfair. Great tracks and lots of fun for a strong player. I wouldn’t get board playing there as a 5cap. They host the PGA club championship this year. Can’t speak to the games available but Id guess what your looking for us there. Now next door is Crescent. They have a robust men’s golf program and an interesting track but more of a muni feel. Inexpensive to join and includes another club nearby. But look into Belfair the pro and others on staff are top notch!

I'm not sure if they're even private anymore or just resort/semi-private but May River is one of my favorite Bluffton area courses.

Just a comment on Belfair - you can only be a member by owning property in the community.

Perhaps you've already ruled it out, but Chechessee Creek seems like a pretty special place.

A good friend of mine is a member at Colleton River. I find the whole package of the place to be awesome. I could see myself moving there in 20 years. Golf courses are both excellent.

Is Colleton River an option? Both courses are unique and fantastic!
