Shaft Replacement Question Ping i3+ CS Lite Stiff

Moo

Recommended Posts

While re-gripping my clubs I noticed I had bent my 9 iron. After searching the net, it does not appear that CS Lite is a shaft currently available for sale. I found one forum that claimed the CS Lite is the True Temper TT Lite. Can anyone confirm this or point me to an acceptable replacement for the CS Lite shaft. Of course I would prefer an exact match.

One idea I've had is to purchase a signle club on ebay and use that shaft. There happens to be an exact replacement, but $40 to get a shaft seems a bit excessive (maybe a last resort).

Thanks.

PING may have old stock for reshaft/repair but will probably be well more than $40 when all said and done.

Getting an odd club to yank the shaft is a good option. CSLite is an odd shaft. Definitely not TT Lite to me. (TT Lite probably is quoted as a replacement for any 115g shaft under the sun LOL).

2 things to consider are

- make sure the shaft is CS Lite stiff (there is no label just silkscreen which likely been rubbed off already. Labeled ones are with CUSHIN insert). The only way is to compare the steps.

- make sure the length is at least standard length

Thanks. This information is much appreciated.

You have provided some facts that confirm a hunch I had. I looked at pictures of each of the shafts and was not convinced they were equal.

I've contacted the seller of the used club and I think I'll go that way and do a shaft swap.

You are correct that all the silk-screening is completely gone from my 17 year old shafts, making confirmation more difficult.

I have a set of i5 with CSLite Stiff Cushin.

The set performed well for me, I don't love the shaft, but the specs were so bang on perfect down to the weight progression through the set.

If I lose a shaft, I likely will reshaft the whole set with some pulls to try out. Just saying...but that's me.

For my game, at age 53, this shaft is offering a bit more height. I've been playing KBS Tour 110, but lately I've not been hitting them at the full load, and getting some less than good results. I put the old Pings back into play and my scores dropped immediately. If I reshaft, I might try the Modus 105, as I've demoed that shaft and love the feel and the height.

Thanks again for your good information.

CS Lite has a unique stepping pattern. Your only chance to get an exact match is by sending the club to Ping or buying a used club and pulling the shaft. Realize though, not all Ping clubs use shafts the same length because the heads are different. Hopefully you can find one the same length or longer than what you have now.

Thanks for your information. I have found an exact match (or so I believe) in a used club of the same loft and by chance (not that this should be a factor) the same lie. If my local repair guy tells me he cannot straighten this shaft, I will buy this replacement. While the shaft is not kinked, it looks to my eye that it probably cannot be repaired.

Thanks for your effort confirming this.

I found a seller in California that seems to know his stuff. He confirmed that the Ping i3+ shaft on his 9 iron is CS Lite stiff. It's the standard model and not the blade, but it appears the shafts are identical. It arrives on Saturday and hopefully it's an exact match.

Thanks again to all that contributed to this thread. It was really helpful.

PS: Golfworks replied to my request and sent me a list of three possible shafts...none of which (in my opinion) are a true match to the CS Lite.

Score shaft wouldn't work anyways because its a .370 tip and the Pings take tapers.

The Golfworks OEM shaft replacement guide shows the CS Lite as being manufactured by TT, weight is 94g for R and 107g for S - that's probably trimmed weight. Didn't see you mention what flex you have, but based on the weights its definitely not a TT Lite. Sounds like you've got if figured out, do the shaft swap or if you are committed to the irons then pay and have Ping do it. Golfworks replacement recommendation is a 3B3H for R and 4B3H for S, so something like a KBS Tour 90 or Nippon 1050GH would probably do the trick. But both are over $25 just for the shaft, so may as well have Ping do it.

Shaft arrived yesterday. Identical step pattern to the original. I tested flex by hand (inaccurate of course, but close enough to confirm) and they are both the same. The only difference was the replacement appears to have been butt trimmed by 1/4 inch, which should not be a significant factor. Heads swapped and new gripped applied in 25 minutes.

Thanks again for all the help!!!
