Olympic Club or Cal Club?

Here is my standard advice - learn about the club - have your sponsor take you to both clubhouses - don’t just say that you are joining for the golf, also mention crab feeds, downtown gym, whatever. It’s typically a 5-10 minute run through with 8-10 people around a big table. While intimidating setup, I haven’t heard of people getting turned down, but don’t walk in being flippant.

I don’t think so? I remember needing to wear jacket and tie and just having normal conversation for 5-10 minutes

Both answers above are correct. You sit in a board room and they just ask you a few questions about your background. My advice for all is just to relax and just don't make it sound like you are only joining the club to be able to play golf. The club has so many other sports and social opportunities...focus on those.

But it would be incredibly rare to fail the interview. It is a "check the box" activity by the committee.

Ah yeah: I got similar advice when I did it. Don’t focus on golf.

Know the year the club was founded. Read the rule book and know the rules. Go to the club a few times with members so you know what it is like. Also go to wine night. It's awesome!

All great points. They want folks that will take advantage of all of the offerings, not just golf.
