Women Irons / Fitting

Hope I have this in right forum but my fiancée began golfing a couple years ago with me. We started her with an inexpensive box set and her game has really excelled. I am looking at getting her a new iron set and am wondering if fitting for ladies set is as necessary as her swing speed is fairly low. I understand that ladies with faster swing speeds my be put into Senior shafts but her driver swing speed is only in the upper 70s. Would most lady flex shafts work for her SS and it comes down to the feel of the iron head? or should we look at customizing heads with shafts?

When I first started learning golf 5 years ago, I couldn’t make contact at all. My husband almost gave up on me until he decided to get me fitted for clubs as a last ditch effort that season. Turned out I need my clubs to be 3 degrees flat and 1” short. I got my custom clubs to start my 2nd season and I couldn’t believe the difference! I am still using the same clubs today and I am now a 7 handicap.

Did you ever get her new clubs? I kind of went down this path with my wife. Got her some used senior flex irons when she started. Every once in a while she'd hit them ok but for the most it was pretty sporadic. Her swing was improving but she wasn't really hitting the ball better. After being interested in it for a while i decided to get her new irons. We went to the PGA Tour Superstore and while she didn't get a full fitting the guy was pretty helpful in swapping out shafts for her until we found something she liked. She went in wanting Mizunos (i guess she has natural good taste), the guy put together a graphite shaft on a hot metal head. She flared it to the right consistently, so he swapped it out for the lightest steel shaft he had (KBS Tour 90 Reg) and what a difference it made. She immediately started hitting it crisp and straight. We were all a little shocked, to make sure it wasn't coincidence he swapped out the graphite shaft and then back to the KBS Tour 90 again and sure enough. Solid ball striking with the light steel shaft and flares to the right with the graphite. Long story short, the difference was huge and we ordered her clubs right then and there. So happy that we did this, she hits her irons so well now and is enjoying the game a hell of a lot more!
