PSA: Hurricane events over Memorial Day

If getting WAGR-ranked or boosting WAGR are a motivation, these Hurricane Junior tour events over Memorial Day represent probably the best opportunity to get a win and get WAGR ranked on the calendar in the U.S.  (they have similar events in Feb over Presidents Day weekend)

Better win though. Better do it with a good score. Watch what happens to JGS ranking if you do anything less than go under par and win.

 

Plus, why would American kids even care about WAGR?

I’ve never understood why you’d name your tour after a natural disaster. There’s no Earthquake Tour in California or Tornado Tour in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma.

US Junior exemptions are based on them, as they move into trying to get into higher profile amateur events, being on WAGR matters.

it’s likely to hurt the player‘s JGS for sure. WAGR probably won’t get hurt even if you are already a ranked player.

I think you can see by the responses on this thread that noone cares about this. Any real golfers trying to get an exemption into US Jnr and other similar events would care even less.

 

@wegobomber31  I know its your "thing", but no one gives a s**t. Noone does not have to mean not a single person, but an overwhelming majority to the point where the term can be used without query.

I bet there are some parents who see this is a way to get an edge - if you thought there was a high probability that your kid could win one of these tournaments (less competitive than AJGA events) and get on the "fast track" via WAGR ranking, why not take the shot?

If no risk to JGS, 100%.

I think the hit to JGS could be minimal (if they play well) and is worth the risk if you think there is even a 25% chance your kid could win

I guess if no one cares, then the thread will just die and go into the ether.  I don't really care that much either, as I'm not entering my kid into these events.  But it might make sense for somebody in a different circumstance, as you just pointed out.

 

There actually is a top US junior who would've gotten a US junior exemption had they just played in one more event this spring.  I'm sure they weren't aware of the exemption or the date cut-off (next week).  But I'm sure, all else equal, they'd prefer to be exempt vs. having to qualify.  So there is some value in being educated on these things.

which is about the same as Miles Russell got finishing 2nd in the Team TaylorMade last summer
