Kiawah Question

Went last month with some friends for 2 nights. Day 1 played Cougar, Day 2 Ocean and Osprey, Day 3 Ocean. I’d rank them Ocean > Osprey > Cougar but Ocean was (for me) very clearly on a different level from the other courses. For Ocean we played the ~6,500 yard tees and especially on the back nine with wind some holes played pretty long. It was difficult but fair (no gimmicks really) and we had an incredible time. Thought price was okay when comparing to competition also. Our caddies were great and I highly recommend going.

Headed to play the ocean course this weekend with the wife. Haven’t been before so we can’t wait.

It actually turned out to be a beautiful trip. We were worried about the rain but didn’t have any while we were there. We played the Ocean Sunday afternoon. It was windy for sure which made it a tough track, but that’s what it’s suppose to be. Overall awesome trip and some really nice courses for anyone looking.

Just finished a trip where we played Kiawah (Ocean course) for the first time, so chiming in here. I'm a 3.3 index and shot 90. It was a long day and at the end all of us felt like we just played a football game. As you're probably guessing, wind was up somewhere in the 30-40 mph range. I lost ~ 4 golf balls and at one point realized I was bleeding a little from the "sandburs"; the course literally beats you up if you miss enough fairways. The only hole I birdied was 17, hitting a 5 iron despite it measuring 154 yards to the stick. I couldn't seem to figure out how to hit it out of the often muddy/packed down waste bunkers.

 

With all that said, I'd absolutely recommend it and feel like it was worth the ~ $520 (factoring in tax and the $100 for a caddie). It was beautiful and we had an absolute blast. We ate dinner outside after (also expensive) and enjoyed it. I would probably only play it again if there is a special running given the expense, but seems like it'd be a big miss to not play it at least once in a lifetime.

It really is far beyond my personal comfort level budget wise. But I still go down there every 4-5 years and play anyway. In fact, I think this summer was the 5th year since my last trip so I'm about due. Better save up!
