Putter Paint Fill - Phantom x12

I'm looking to redo the top lines on my phantom x12 from the bright yellow and am just curious if anyone has any recommendations on how to best go about that? Is it necessary to strip the paint first or easier to just go right over? I've done the standard tamiya toothpick acetone method before on wedges but this would be my first time on a putter. Also, if anyone knows of any quick custom paint shops that would be willing to do it, I would be interested as well.

Paint fill is easy to do on your own. You are going to want to strip that existing paint out of there using some paint stripper (i prefer the gel type). Just apply it with a Q-Tip and let it sit for a minute. Use a toothpick to scrape out the paint and then wipe it all down. Then you can use either Testors enamel or an acrylic paint with a toothpick. Don't worry about staying in the lines. After it dries a bit, put some acetone on a paper towel and wipe firmly over the surface a time or two at a time. Then either switch paper towels or use a different piece of the paper towel (I prefer to use the blue shop towels since they don't shed as much). After you have wiped off all the excess, let it dry the rest of the way and you are good to go.

Yup super easy and tons of fun if you are bored.

 

Acetone to remove old paint and then buy acrylic or enamel paint from a hobby shop or wherever and use some Q-tips and toothpicks to apply.

 

I bet there are some cool guides here. I just kinda tried and experimented on my own and have done lots of clubs. I paintfilled irons to match the grips and ferrules, I blacked out some putters etc.

 

Takes up the time during my winter golf break haha.

I have been reading up on doing my own and everything I have read said to use Testors for sure.. I would probably go the easy route and just put it over the existing paint.

 

Side note does the top of your x12 scratch easy???

I am convinced that Scotty went down the route of making the paint fill on the new range so garish simply to boost the number of people sending theirs to the Custom Shop to be redone. Good for you doing it at home.

I use tamiya acrylic. You can get the translucent colours. Works great.

How did it go? Did you have any trouble with the black coming off the putter head?

A putter may be slightly different, but I have done it to all my wedges and irons and its really simple! I just use regular nail polish and acetone (nail polish remover). I suggest doing a white base coat to help the colors pop. To remove excess use a damp paper towel or q-tips. Simple, cheap and fun!
