Augusta Pine and Blackhorse are really nice golf courses. If you want a good challenge I would suggest Houstion National(north to south).
+1
What part of town will you be in? Budget?
I played Sienna plantation last week in SW Houston and it was awesome..and only 50 bucks. Arthur Hills design.

Don't forget the Woodlands tpc or Redstone

Honestly, during any time other than immediately before or after the Shell Houston Open, I dont think Redstone is worth the money. It's an ok course, but not for the price they charge.

There is a course in Mont Belvieu, about 20 or so minutes east of Houston, that is nice. It is perhaps one of the nicer public courses in the Houston area. It's called Eagle Pointe. I havent played it in a few weeks, but last time I did, it was in great shape.

Timber Creek in Friendswood (just south of Houston) is another nice course.

Never played Augusta Pines. Is it open to the public?

Houston National and Blackhorse are both nice courses, though Houston National was not in that great of shape when I played it a month ago. I played the north and south courses at Houston National, and I think I played the South course at Blackhorse.

Wildcat is another good one. Both courses are nice, and each one tough in their own way. The lakes course is full of water, as the name suggests. The highlands course, I dont remember there being any water, but there are thick areas of tall reeds. Both are links style, with lots of elevation changes, which is not typical in this area.

Yes Augusta pines is open to the public..about 85 bucks and always in great shape.
Wildcat is a fun course (both of them). Looks easy on paper..haha
Houston National is always windy which is what makes it tough.

Sienna Plantation really surprised me. I recommend it to any golfer in Houston.

I played a tournament at Wildcat Lakes course about 2 months or so ago. I started the round with 7 balls in my bag. By the time I finished the front nine, I had 2 left. I had to buy balls int he club house to make sure I didnt run out. It was a bad day. I think I posted a 91.

At Houston National, I played the North/South courses. I played the North in 35. Nothing bigger than 1 bogey, and had 2 birdies. On the 1st hole of the south course, I took a double. I proceeded to follow it up with a 9 on the next hole. It was a par 4! I ended up shooting a 53 on the back. lol As bad as it was, I guess it is a good thing that I could shoot a 53 on 9 holes, and still come in under 90.

I have heard great things about Sienna Plantation, just havent gotten out there yet.

Yea Sienna surprised me..the last time I played there was when it had first opened and I thought nothing of it. When I played last week I was amazed at the conditions and the mix of long and short holes. The greens roll true and are pretty undulated for a Houston course. Web specials make it 50 bucks on the weekend..Way better course than Blackhorse and Houston National in my opinion.

Check out Tour 18. The holes are remakes of the supposed best 18 holes in America. As stated by others, Agusta Pines is nice. I live pretty close to that place and use the range facilities a lot...$8 for all you can hit! The same management company owns Gleannloch Pines, which is also a pretty good track. Really, there are several nice places to play here. Houston is very underrated as a golf city. We have no winter to speak of so we can play literally year round. This is a great time of year to play golf here. Our 3 months of 90 degrees and 90% humidity are over. Oh yea...check out www.golfq.com for tee time deals. There are about 25 Houston area courses on there.

In addition to those already recommended, here are couple of my favorites, depending on what part of town you want to play in. These all have a unique charm to them.

The Wilderness in Lake Jackson (southwest side)
The Falls in New Ulm (west)
Moody Gardens in Galveston
Blaketree National (north west)

Played Oakhurst of Kingwood (formerly Bentwood) this past weekend. The course is in great shape. Only saw one green that was a little sparse around the edge. Otherwise, all the rest of the greens we good, balls held well. The traps were well groomed and the sand looked great. The rough is pretty thick and grown to a length that is fair but still penal if you hit into it.

Hey Steve, +1 on Blaketree. I've played there once and I loved their layout.

Oakhurst is not a bad little course. I think they rating and slope is a little low for how the course actually plays. If it wasnt such a drive from me, I'd probably play it more often. I think it is something like $25 at twilight.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
