Dynamic Gold "Frequency Matched" shaft bands

Bought an early '90s set of Wilson blades and they came with Dynamic Gold R400 shafts.  The shaft bands read "Frequency Matched 02C 088..." below the typical Dyamic Gold text.  Was this common back then?  I also noticed the silk screen logos on the shafts are oriented randomly, is this part of what the bands indicate, for example some sort of spine alignment?

Could be. The whole idea of the DG over the Dynamic was a matched feel from 1 iron to sand iron. Add in the fact the weight tolerances were much better and if you needed a new shaft the replacement should feel very close to the broken one.

TT Dynamic Gold shafts are weight sorted.  They were not frequency matched by TT.   Now that didn't preclude any OEM of using a custom shaft band that could claim anything.   My FG51 shaft bands say "Frequency Matched" as well, but frequency matching back then was barely known and I'd bet a lot that this is a marketing buzz word they could throw on the bands.  I'd be stunned if they actually went to the effort and money of doing it.

 

Someone might have gone to the effort of trying to spine align them or something.  Or just did a crappy job of putting in the shafts.

The "Frequency Matched" part of the label appears to be part of the original True Tamper shaft band, that's the part that is new to me.  It doesn't look like something Wilson added.

As an OEM you can get them to print almost anything on the shaft band you want.  There was more than just the stock shaft band available.  You used to get "cards" of shaft labels from TT with 9-12 bands on them (can't recall since it was 20+ yrs ago).  Enough for every shaft you ordered from them.

Thanks for the info.  I have some of those old sheets of DG shaft labels lying around from shafts I've ordered.  Prefer no shaft labels so I never put them on.
