Back in the obsession... I mean the game of golf!

Just wanted to make my intro here... My [golf] life story...

 

I'm 42 and have been swinging a club since probably before I was 10. Got into the game during my teen years, even to the point where I was a caddy for a summer at age 13 and then the starter on a little executive course the next summer. I've had some lessons during my years, and my parents were nice enough to gift me custom fit clubs ~20 years ago after I got out of college. But I've never been particularly good at the game. Best I ever really got was a reasonable expectation to shoot rounds in the mid 90s. 

 

I had a group I started playing with regularly about a decade ago from my work, but with people having job changes and layoffs that fell through, and I was into the 1-2 round/year mode. Then I got divorced, and in my new relationship had to balance having kids every other weekend while wanting to travel and spend time with my [now] wife on the weekends without the kids, so I hadn't played a round since about 2015. 

 

Fast forward to this summer and COVID. I was going to be seeing my wife's mom & stepdad for ~5 days, and he's a huge golf nut. So I figured I'd dust off my bag and see if he wanted to shoot a round. We went out and did so, and I remembered that I really, really like the game of golf!

 

So ever since I've been trying to get back into it, and think I'm going to try to actually get more serious about being better than your average hacker. Been trying to get out for 18 every other weekend, and out to the range during my lunch hour (working from home--it's about 2 mi away) once a week or so. That range is attached to a little executive course, and sometimes I can even steal away for a quick 9 in the morning before starting work. Just got my son (13) a set of clubs for Christmas so we'll probably play a little bit on the weekends he's here too. 

 

Joined The Grint and using it to give myself an official handicap. 24.3 at the moment...

 

Lots of work to do!

All the best with getting back and excelling in it.  Even if it’s to excel in a great outdoor activity! I’m around a 20 handicap and determined to shave 10 strokes by summer’s end.  Let’s do this!

I have a feeling it'll be a lot like losing weight... The first couple of strokes will come off quickly via practice/consistency, and then it's gonna be a LOT harder to get it down from there.
