Early extension and lacking extension in follow through

Working on my swing this winter. Among a few other things, the issues that really plague me is early extension and not getting a good extension on my follow through. The early extension fix has been simple enough, I just need to work on it more to get it engrained. Just simply focusing on staying down and rotating my hips around my spine to get my belt buckle at the target before extending has helped. But even when I'm not extending early, my follow through is really short. On video my left wrist extends shortly after impact causing my left elbow to bend and then my right hand quickly rolls over my left which results in my follow through being really short and just wrapping around my left shoulder. It's not chicken winging, just sort of collapsing around my body instead of extending towards the target. Looking for some advice on drills, thoughts, feelings etc. to work on extending my follow through. Things I've done include 9 to 3 drill, L to L drill (single handed with each hand and two handed) and 50-75% full swings really focusing on getting extended. When I go back to full swings, the crappy follow through comes right back. I know I just need to work on it and get the new feeling engrained, but curious if there are other drills, exercises, etc. I may be missing.

The issue is likely you aren’t addressing why you are early extending.  EE in and off itself, is not a swing fault.

Thanks Monte. I think it comes from 2 things. 1. My arms do get stuck behind a bit and I get the feeling I need to stand up to make room. 2. I'm tall (6'8") and am working on not being so steep in my downswing. I feel like coming in steep also causes me to EE in a last ditch effort to shallow things out. I've been working on both issues, but never thought of those as the cause of other issues down the line. I need to look at things from this perspective a bit more and figure it out. Thanks again for having me look at the causes that need fixed, not necessarily fixing the issue in and of itself.

I agree with Monte, you need to know what is causing you to early extend, then focus on eliminating that. I think early extension will be the root of most of your problems. I also early extend and figured out what was causing it. I was basically in a finish position when I was making impact.  My body was facing the target and I was up on my toes on my back foot. When I addressed this issue, I told myself to stay square and down through the ball and keep my right foot down. I was able to get rid of early extension and add 15 mph on my swing speed. Now, early extension could be affecting your follow through. Make sure you hit through the ball and swing through the ball, all the way to the finish.  Work on completing your swing and following through how you want too. Try to exaggerate your finish.

@Dcass5 Thanks!! All makes sense. I do get the feeling that I get ahead of myself as I'm coming through impact. I just picked up am impact bag that I think will help, particularly with my follow through. I also just started working on Monte's new NTC series last night. REALLY making sense for me. I'm thinking a lot of the hand/wrist positioning from the first part of the series is going to help my issues as well. I've only worked up to the cast to 8 o'clock portion of the series, but man did a lot of stuff instantly click!!

Do you think your lead wrist bending is causing your lead elbow to bend?

I would encourage you to make small triangle swings (keeping both arms straight) back and through.  Allow your body to "figure out" how to finish with the triangle still intact pointing at the target, gradually lengthen swing once you can accomplish task with smaller swings first...
