Nike Golf Signs Top LPGA Player Suzann Pettersen to its Tour Staff

BEAVERTON, Ore. (January 8, 2008) – Nike Golf has expanded its talented roster of athletes with the addition of top LPGA Tour player Suzann Pettersen. Pettersen has signed a multi-year agreement and will represent Nike Golf in clubs, balls, footwear, glove and bag.

“To be associated with a powerful global brand such as Nike is an athlete’s dream,” said Pettersen. “I love the spirit and passion the company has in developing innovative products that push the limits and furthers performance. I’m thrilled to be starting the 2008 LPGA season as a Nike Golf athlete and can’t wait to begin using the new products in competition.”

Pettersen, who is from Oslo, Norway, is Norway’s best professional golfer. The Norwegian exploded on the LPGA Tour last year with five wins, including a major championship, and finished second on the year’s money list. As a result of this remarkable performance, Pettersen propelled her position to number two in the Women’s World Golf Rankings. She also won in her home country by taking victory at the European Tour’s SAS Masters in Norway.

Nicknamed “Tutta” in Norway, Pettersen has represented Europe on the 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2007 Solheim Cup teams in which the top women players from the United States compete against the top women players from Europe. In addition to her six worldwide wins in 2007, Pettersen also claimed victories at the 2001 French Open and the 2000 World Championship.

“Suzann is an impressive player, exudes a fierce competitiveness and is a fantastic all-round athlete,” said Kel Devlin, Global Sports Marketing Director for Nike Golf. “We are proud to have such an electrifying athlete representing the Nike Golf brand on the LPGA Tour.”

It will be interesting to see Suzanne compete with Lorena next year for the number one spot.

I've practiced a bit at the golf club in Norway where she was a member (and still is) - and she looks like the next big thing on the LPGA Tour to me.

She is no model, but certainly wayyy better looking than 99% of the girls on the LPGA Tour and she definitely has got some serious game to back up here pretty good looks (she only looks 7/10 though compared to other Scandinavian blonde girls)
Definitely a great match and a very smart pickup for Nike right now. But I will miss seeing the Peak Performance gear on her. The Nike clothing isn't even close.
Hopefully Nike uses this as a springboard to make some more Euro-styled, form fitting, classic looking gear.

You should try the Nike Sphere Dry polo's - I own both J Lindeberg, Ralph Lauren, Lacoste, Peak Performance and 12-15 of these Nike Spehere Dry polo's - and these Nike Sphere Dry polo's are very very nice, very close to Euro style fit and very very comfortable to wear and made in great quality :)

Good pickup for Nike, and hopefully it will raise SP's profile here in the states. I think she's the real deal and I'm really looking forward to seeing her go head to head with Lorena this year. I'm also really happy that she'll still be wearing Peak clothing. No knock against Nike, but I was getting a little tired of all Michell's half-size too small get-ups.

I wouldn't write her off just yet, and I don't think Nike will be either.

Say what you want about her, she gets press, she gets airtime, she gets a gallery, she sells.

Michelle Wie on the bottom of the leaderboard gets more airtime than anyone in the middle of the pack on Sunday.

Actually, she gets more airtime in Stanford, taking the year off, than anyone in the middle of the pack on the LPGA.

I'm not saying she's God's gift to womens' golf, but from a marketing standpoint, unless she has some DWI's or commits any other crimes while in college, she will continue to represent somebody's brand... and most likely Nike will not just let her go.

Great pick-up for NIKE. Per January 12 GolfWeek, NIKE clothing is on hold until her contract with PEAK is finished. So it looks like we get to see the cool threads a bit longer.

Wie will become a non-issue this year. Nike will put her on the back burner. Honestly....after 2006, she's the equivalent of box office poison. The Wie-niacs will pay to see here....the media will keep putting her ahead of honest earners.....so on and so forth....

really though...meh....I could care less if I hear or see anything else regarding Wie. Bring some game....prove your talent.....then I'll give you some props....til then...go away.

I really don't think the media reports of Wie finishing on the bottom of the leader board is good for the LPGA or Ms. Wie herself. It's just bad media.

If that "bad media" includes a Nike Swoosh :) then it's advertising.

They already have Tiger. Everything else is just gravy.

I strongly disagree. Not only is she a great golfer, but I think she is one "Fine Tomato"! :)
