West Palm Beach area public courses

Good evening,

 

I realize there are probably several posts that I could scroll through and probably find out some valuable information but I figured I would start my own thread. I’ll be in West Palm Beach for a week and a half at the end of August and was looking for recommendations on public courses. Unfortunately my transportation will be limited, so I’m looking within about a 30 min drive time. I’m somewhat familiar with the area but I’ve never played any public courses. Willing to spend to play a nice track, but hopefully summer rates help the wallet. Thanks in advance for any help!

This is what I posted in the Jupiter thread on the first page of the Florida forum which would be relevant given your criteria, although Hammock Creek is another 15 minutes North of Jupiter:

 

Abacoa is the nicest public course in Jupiter and they consistently have the nicest conditions year round. By far the best greens of any public nearby and better than a lot of the privates.

 

Aside from Abacoa, North Palm Beach is a good bet, as is Hammock Creek. Conditioning won’t be as good as Abacoa but they are solid courses. While the Jupiter area is a hot bed for golf a lot of it is private, sounfortunately not a lot of top tier publics in the area.

Yeah I grew up playing private courses around there. My grandfather was a member at Mirasol until about two years ago. Have never played a public course in the area.

If you're open to driving to South PBC, I would head to Osprey. Great course with 3 9's. The only issue is getting an early tee time there.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll definitely try to give Abacoa a shot, I've heard some pretty good things.

Palm Beach Par 3 and Florida Club are the best options (public) in the area. Obviously PB Par 3 is a par 3 but its legit par 3s not a pitch and putt and right on the ocean and river, can't beat it. Florida Club is as good as any private in the area (at least it was when I was last there three years ago?) I have not heard otherwise that it is not in good shape.

Got to play North Palm Beach CC yesterday. The greens were punched about a week ago but the course design and layout was fantastic. If the greens were normal, I could see it in my top 10 favorite public courses I’ve ever played.

Also got to play Abacoa today. Not quite as good as North Palm Beach but still fun to play. Thank you guys for the suggestions, glad I had time to play twice while I was in the area. Look forward to coming back and trying a couple of the others in the future.
