Caddytek 3-wheel or 4-wheel?

Recommended Posts

After borrowing my fathers 2-wheeled pull cart for a couple rounds I’ve decided I need a push cart.

The 2 caddytek options from Costco are most appealing to me in part because price is a factor. They currently have the caddylite one swivel V8 and the super lite 4-wheel.

Does anyone have experience with either one of these? Does the swivel wheel move ok? I’ve see people pushing 3-wheeled swivel carts and sometimes it looks like the front wheel is wobbling like a beat up shopping cart.

The main thing I want is one that will keep the bag the most upright to reduce club tangle and will be stable.

I’m also open to other recommendations in the sub-$200 price range.

I have the 3 wheel and no complaints. No wobbling for the front tire. Use a Hoofer and club tangle is not an issue. Bag is very stable on the cart. Have never tried the 4 wheel.

Thanks, that is good to hear. I have a hoofer light and play midsize grips, so tangle while the legs are out is a minor annoyance at least. So a cart that keeps the bag a little more upright I figure might help.

I have the 3 wheel and it is a very solid ride that is easy to steer and has zero wobbling. The only issue I have is that it gets too top-heavy and tips over when I use the umbrella attachment. I use a lightweight bag which may contribute. My solution is to secure a circular 5 pound plate to the base with a bungee cord and it works just fine.

Interesting, I’ve had the Caddytek 3 wheel that I purchased in 2013. It’s still in great condition but I have always thought I made the wrong choice simply because it looks like the 4 wheelers fold up much more compact.

Also, this isn’t the biggest deal but I find the plastic cup holders that hang from the side as a cheap design. It always falls off when I am folding/unfolding. I prefer the cup holders that are built into the main center console that other brands have.

I considered that issue with the cup holder and that seems to be a common complaint of any cart with a cup holder that just clips on to the side. I am looking at a few more models as well. The Bag Boy Quad XL looks appealing. But so do some of the other caddytek models from tgw as well. The trouble is, there's not a lot of stock in any stores right now to go actually see one in person.

I don't mind paying for quality. But I also know I will continue you at times to carry, ride, and once I get one use a push cart. So it's just a bit hard to justify the cost when they all seem to have their faults and it won't be the only way I transport my clubs around the course.

@rkillian Even though I have had the Caddytek and it has worked for me, in hindsight I probably would have went with the Bag Boy XL Quad or the Compact 3 just based on their design and how compact they fold up and given their similar price point. I think the quality designed ones are going to be in that $190-$230 range. I would just look out for some deals from the online golf retailers as they often offer some 20% off coupons. I actually walk maybe 80% of my rounds and generally carry during cooler temps, push cart when it's hotter and occasionally ride for random outings where its required. I found value in having my push cart and felt it was worth it for that price range I mentioned above and I'm pretty price conscious myself.

I often check www.dealtrackergolf.com as they do a pretty good job scouring all the online golf retailers for their current promos. For example, RockBottomGolf has some push carts on sale and they are selling the BagBoy Compact 3 for $199.

Thanks for the tips. I'll give that all a look. I do walk most of my rounds outside of weekends which I usually only play when I can take my father out as well. I think I would walk 18 holes or at least more than 9 holes during twilight if I had a push cart.

The Bag Boy Spartan xl looks appealing too but I can't really find any info or reviews on that one.
