Hey guys! I'm 15 and a 10 handicap right now but I would like to grow up to be a pro on either the nationwide or PGA tour or European tour. Any advice?
Don't just practice for the sake of practicing but devolop a practice routine and work on the mental toughness. If you watch Tiger I believe the mental part of the game is what separates him from all of the rest of the field. If the golf channel re-runs (And they do about twice a year) his last US Amatuer win you will see that toughness. He went into the afternoon down and he only won it on the last few holes. He wins because he believes in himself and his game.

Hey,

I'm by no means a pro but thought i'd offer my opinion.

I think there are a few key things that will help you out on your quest.

Firstly, i think it would be a good idea to go see coach. Work hard with him for a good while and don't be afraid to take a few steps back before you progress. It's much better to iron out the flaws and re build then to just cover them up because they will come back. By playing off 10 you have already made it to a fairly good standard but you will most probably have swing flaws. If you can get a good consistant swing then you'll be onto a winner :ok:

Secondly, out of the 4 hours or so you play, how long do you think you actually spend hitting shots? Maybe 2 minutes a shot MAX and if you want to be pro level that's only 140 minutes MAX a round then. So you need to work on what you are going to do in the time between shots and after. If you have a good mental approach in my opinion most things are possible.

Thirdly, you will need to practice A LOT, but not just because you have to. Everytime you go out to practice make sure you have a goal in mind, a realistic target that you can achieve while you're there. This will make your practice more meaningful.

Good luck and i hope it works out for you.

Mike.

Log out and go to the range.

I had a friend who played semi-pro basketball in Ireland. He always had fantasies about going to the NBA, but it just never happened. One night he came over to my house to meet up, and we were going to hit a local bar. My father came into the basement (the hang-out before going out) and said his hellos.

He asked my friend about his plans for the "future" (I already had a full time job at this point, he was unemployed, waiting for another offer to play in Ireland). My friend told my dad he wanted to play in the NBA. He told my friend, "Then you shouldn't be going out drinking with my son." "The guys who are going to make it to the NBA are playing basketball RIGHT NOW."

I am slowly becoming my father (unfortunately) but he happened to be right in this case.

When everyone else is messing around, they guys and gals that make it are practicing and devoting their lives to making it.

Yes, practice, practice, practice but even though you practice, have the talent, have the skills, and you have the desire...You still may not ever make it as a professional athlete.

My purpose isn't to dampen ones spirit but to put a touch of realism in the dream. A backup plan for a person's future isn't that bad of an idea either. JAT

p. s. I'm in agreement with "withdrews" dad....

i totally agree with these posts, you look at 99% of people who are in professional sports such as golf, hockey, soccer, baseball, football it is because from their first year in highschool until they were drafted, etc they worked their butt off everyday trying to get to that level.

Your not going to golf for 6 months and go from a 10 hdc to a +3 it's just not going to happen, you have to work and work extremely hard.

Just think how many golfers there are out there in College's, junior tours, etc. in the whole world, and 125 get to play on the PGA Tour.

As MrParr1Noid said you cannot rely on making the PGA Tour and have nothing to back that up. Start your goals out small, try to win a local tournament, then try to a win a state tournament or AJGA tournament, then maybe a scholarship offer, after that try to get a degree with that scholarship, then if you think your good enough go try q-school and see what happens but if you fail at least you have that degree to fall back on.

So Practice hard, and often, but study harder and more often because for 99.9% of people out there school is going to get your farther in life than golf ever will (that's just a fact not trying to dampen spirits)
