Fitting at Miles of Golf in A2

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I've been into the game of golf for 20 plus years now, and I'm currently a 12 handicap, working my way back down to where I was in prior years. I have never been fitted for clubs and neither has my father. We've just always grabbed stuff off the rack, standard length, lie, etc. We are scheduled for a fitting in a couple weeks at Miles of Golf in Ann Arbor (technically Ypsi), and I would like to get your opinions on what to expect.

First, we are only scheduled for the Basixx fitting (full bag) because we really like the idea of getting the fitting cost back when we purchase clubs.  I could be persuaded to go for the Maxx but I know my father isn't budging on that. Do you think the Basixx fitting with the GCQuad (vs Trackman4) will get us set up in some great-performing irons and woods?  I am looking at making the move to graphite shafted irons for the first time, and my father will continue to stick with graphite irons. Neither of us is trying to get into super exotic shaft setups with a $1k driver or anything like that. One thing I think I notice as a difference, is that the Trackman will show all of the shorts and their dispersion with a circle around them, and I don't believe the Quad will do that. If so, I am not sure how much of a difference that will make.

Second, is there anyone in particular we should ask for by name, as far as fitters go?  Miles replied that all of their fitters have been there at least one year, but that doesn't sound like a lot of time.

Third, we are hitting in heated bays off of mats into the outdoors.  Hoping that is still a good way to get fitted. We want to get this done this winter, and I had thought that this would be a better option than beating balls into a screen. Thoughts on this?

Really excited about this, and I am going into this with a completely open mind, although I do have some specific clubs I want to try out (irons: Mizuno JPX 921 Forged, Hot Metal Pro, PING whatever, Titleist T200, Srixon ZX5, woods: Callaway Rogue, Mizuno, Titleist, Cobra; wedges: Cleveland, Vokey, Mizuno, Bettinardi).  Again, I will be open minded and I will end up selecting the clubs that I hit best.

Appreciate all of your opinions.

Miles is one of the best in the state.   I don't believe you can go wrong with any fitter there.

I've not been fitted there but have talked to their fitters, had lessons and hit their range.    It's a great idea that you are open minded for the fitting.   When I got fitted I was sure I wanted Ping but the numbers just weren't there compared to what I currently have.

Good luck, keep us posted.

btw...if you are getting a full bag fitting...get plenty of rest, drink plenty of water and prepared for a heavy workout.   A full bag fitting should be two days in my opinion.

Thanks Denny!  We are doing it on two days, 24 hours apart (irons first day, woods second day).   Appreciate the help. Super pumped.

It’s been a several years but I took my oldest son for a fitting at Miles of Golf and it was excellent.  The intent of the fitting was to buy my son a good set of irons as a graduation present.

He went in with intentions set on a specific sets or irons but it turned out, after hitting numerous heads with numerous shafts, his current heads fit him the best he just needed to go from S300 to X100.

Tech said they could do the work but it would be cheaper for me to do them with some pulls, which is what I did.

My son still plays his TaylorMade irons with X100’s to this day.

No hard sell, just the fitter working with my son as he said his job was to get my son in the best set of irons, shafts and specs that he could for his swing.  Fitter was brand agnostic as he did not favor any OEM.

Its like a candy shop in there if you are a golf equipment gear head.  Most every shaft and head that you could want and all with quick connect so they can swap out to whatever.

Used range balls if I remember correctly so that’s a downside but may have changed that by now.

Hit from a bay inside but into the range area so you can also see actual ball flight rather than hitting into a screen.

This was the full blown fitting so the basic one may be less.

Thank you Radeon.  I appreciate the info and it's great knowing that they don't put the hard sell on like some other national fitters that I have heard about.

Dad finished his fitting today. Range balls out a heated garage bay on GC Quad. As I predicted, he was fitted for Launcher (Halo) and he loved how he hit them (20 handicap).  Said it was like a light switch being turned on, versus his old irons. Was only able to gain 5 yards with a new Stealth driver, so he will continue hitting his old Taylor Burner from 2007.  $550 is clearly not worth a net of 5 yards. Did the basic fitting and he was very happy. Ordered 5-PW, some wedges and a 3 wood. He's looking forward to golfing the Straits Course with me and I am genuinely happy for him.
