Good Courses Near Limerick to try

My wife and I are avid golfers and are coming to Limerick for a week.  We would like recommendations on good golf courses..  We like the idea of seaside courses Lahinch, Trump course and Ballybunion and Shannon.     If anyone else has any other gems or favorites, let me know.  We are going up in late June and don't mind saving money by playing at different times.  Is it a good idea to contact the club directly now or wait?  Also,  are caddies standard practice at the big clubs?

Whatever you do, MAKE SURE to play Tralee! I would definitely go online now to see if there are even any times available. They have been pretty much booked up for a couple years due to Covid. If you want to play a couple other non links courses around Limerick you have Adare Manor which is the Augusta of Ireland and priced accordingly. You have another option in Dromoland Castle just north of Shannon. As far as caddies go, most clubs require at least 1 caddie per group. You could always just hire a forecaddie for you and your wife. Basically they do the same as a caddie would except they don’t carry or push your bag. If you’re flying into Dublin, there’s a great links course, Corballis Links,  about 20 mins from the airport right on the coast. We played it right after we landed and loved it. It was only €30 as well. If you have any other questions, send me a PM and I’ll be happy to help.

Thanks for the information.  Are all these courses walkable?  Elevation changes and/or long distances between the tees is a deterant.

Tralee is pretty flat on the front nine, but very hilly on the back nine, (which btw many say it’s the best 9 holes in the world and I agree) but it’s walkable. There are many elevation changes but it’s doable. Adare Manor is a flat parkland course and easily walkable. Dromoland is also a parkland course that has some hills but is walkable. Corballis is a very walkable links course. The tees are very close to the greens unlike sone designs over here.

I'd have this moved to the Great Britain and Ireland sub-forum if you want more responses.

I'd be online now looking at tee times, Tralee was almost completely booked for the 9 day period middle of June we'll be there, Lahinch was really booked up, Ballybunion probably is now - haven't looked for three weeks, so tee times could be an issue (which may change as some times that have carried over get abandoned, who knows).

Thanks for all the input.   What about playing twilight?  Doonbeg had a 95 Euro price after 4pm.  Is that a good value?  And are there discounts if you book through a person that lives in the area?   We were thinking we'd pay their green fee if they give discounts for locals.   Currently, we are looking at Dromoland, Doonberg, and Shannon.  But i'd love to play some the aformentioned.  Tralee, lahinch and Old Head.

You should have plenty of time to finish your round if you tee off at 4pm. It doesn’t get dark in June till 9:30 ish. One added bonus as well will be if it’s a sunny day, the lighting and shadows of twilight make the views even better… $95 to play Doonbeg is a great deal! As far as the other course, contact them via email a couple weeks before you to see if they had any cancellations or if they have open spots.

No - there are no discounts for locals at courses.  It doesn't work like that.  People either pay the rate or are members of a club.   Unless they are a member, you likely won't get anything lower than published.
