Another example of how "experienced" caddies are really overrated

You know, when the tourney started and I heard Harry wasn't going to be on the bag, I wondered myself how Rory would play this week. There has been alot of babble over the last 5-6 majorless years that Harry is part of Rory's problem. I think Rory made as many boneheads mistakes as he usually does this week it's just his putter and wedge were dialed in (not counting holes 15-16 on sunday)

Shame that 'professionals' need someone with them to talk them out of doing stupid things. Worth a 10% cut, i guess.

It's Rory.  Can't really use him as an argument one way or the other.  Some weeks, the world's worst caddie couldn't stop him from winning.  Other weeks, the world's best caddie couldn't prevent him from losing.  Just Rory being Rory, week in and week out.

I think when Rory is in full flow he would probably be fine carrying his own bag. 

 

Credit to Niall though for helping Rory this weekend. Clearly there were a couple of moments where the panic button could have been hit, but they managed to pull through for a great win.

A lot of it is player dependent.  Rory is an elite talent.  If he's on the top of his game, I could loop for him and he'd likely win.  Other of the more journeyman golfers that don't have his length off the tee need to rely on course management more and that is where a seasoned, experienced caddy can be the difference from that pro keeping their card or having to go back to KF to regain their card.

Maybe Rory’s caddy could have suggested he quit criticising LIV players seeking geld. Sounds awful coming from someone taking a King’s ransom from Nike. Then using LIV as a motivating factor in his Toronto win. Didn’t he have a SA sponsor. Grow up Rory.

Just watching the press conference now, it clearly has motivated him which is good for Rory and for the game. 

 

It is up to Nike how much they pay him as it is for LIV to decide how they reimburse their players. I like the "off the fence" Rory, he has earned the right to comment.
