What year is this Wilson 8813

All,

Having some trouble identifying this club. Most 8813 have the lettering in line with the face, where this is in line with the flange. There are a few like this on eBay or sold on eBay, but no real information about the club..This putter has the silver headspeed shaft label, and the blue and red flag cap on the end on the grip. Does anyone know the year of this club, and if the stamping is proper? (someone listed one of these on eBay as "misprint")

Thanks in advance

That is the reverse stamp model, which is one of the more rare versions. I have a reverse stamp 8813 and it is one of my favorite clubs, not just one of my favorite putters, but a favorite among all my clubs.

I've been looking for a definitive date on mine for several years now and can not find it. Most of the 8813s in the 60s had the normal stamp and the shaft length on them, so this is either the first year they were made (1965) or early 70s after the 60s style was changed. Mine had an early 70s grip when I bought it, but it could have been a replacement grip put on a decade after the putter was made.

I was hoping someone would answer this for you with something definitive, but I guess not yet. I'm going to keep looking until I find the answer, but it probably doesn't matter. It's a great putter and you are lucky to have it, especially since the reverse stamp is a cool model.

I'm interested in this as well. my 8813 is also a reverse stamping and has three sight lines but no groove on the flange.

It's a shaft over hosel type.

I've often wondered if it might have been made at Wilson's UK plant in Irvine which opened in 1962.

It's not all about the score.

Hi,

Sorry for resurrecting the post.

Here you have my 8813 reverse stamping, Made in Scot(land) and no dot or lines (neither parallel nor perpendicular at all).

Given that lack of any sight it's closer to the original 8802. In fact, the "popular knowledge" that the 8813 is an 8802 with sight lines gets questioned.

My guess is that it's a transitional model between the 8802 and the later 8813 (1964/1965). The two flag grip would support this.

To make the things even more interesting, I've also got an Arnold Palmer Power Point putter (also made in Scotland) coming that shares some characteristics with the older Wilson AP as well as with the 8813 and, as far as I know, it could be dated around 1964.

Best wishes
