Improving my impact position

Recommended Posts

Looking for some feedback on my swing. My most common miss is a hook, and I've a well documented history of being flippy and lacking shaft lean at impact. On a rare occasion I'll hit a thin shot or a shot that bleeds a little to the right, but mostly my miss will go left.... or lefter than left. I play a draw because that just tends to be my most natural shot shape.

Would love some feedback on what stands out to some of y'all. I tend to be a better player, my current index being a 6.5 but thats mostly because I have a pretty solid game from within 120 yards and can mostly avoid trouble off the tee box. I track my strokes gained through Arccos and almost always lose the most strokes in my approach game so I've been really wanting to clean some of that up.

I apologize for the lack of a DTL video, will try to get one up asap. I've posted swing videos here before so I know to take everyone's feedback with a grain of salt but I always enjoyed hearing everyone's perspective and thoughts. With that being said, feel free to tear my swing apart 🙂

This looks like a better swing than the ones you posted last year, much less scoopy with better lean at impact. A couple things to note, the first:

You're in what Monte calls the 68 Ballerina position here and I recommend checking out his suggestions in the link. Your hands and arms at P6 as being outraced by your hips at P8 (hence the name) which causes them to get stuck behind you which forces a form of flip through impact that will inevitably introduce lots of clubface closure and timing. Notice Adam Scott's hands on top of the right thigh at P6 (club parallel to the ground in the downswing) whereas yours are well above and behind it. Again, check the 68 Ballerina link for suggestions relating to that, but here is a thought...

Your clubface is VERY shut at the top of the swing, like Dustin Johnson shut. This is obviously not good for a left miss, and that combined with:

You presetting your club face wide open at address tells me you might not have great club face awareness throughout the swing. An element of your backswing is excessively restricting your clubface rotation (either intentionally or not) and I feel like you might be racing with your lower body to stay ahead of the shut clubface to stave off the hook. I'd get in front of a mirror and make backswings while messing with face angle using your hands and forearms. If you fight a hook then it's obvious you'll want to neutralize a shut clubface.

It would also be good to see a down the line angle as your previous one posted last year had some pelvic rotation issues.

UPDATE: Here's a DTL video of my swing from today. Not really the best angle because the tripod was sorta on a slope but hopefully good enough to be analyzed 😅

Still not really rotating my pelvis as much as I'd like in the backswing but its definitely improved.

Appreciate the feedback. It certainly has come a long way from my previous posts.

I agree with you, my hips way outrace my arms which doesn't seem to be a common issue amongst most golfers lol. I'll take a look at that article and work on some of those feels to get my arms more down and in sequence with my hips.

I have noticed that I tend to preset a more open looking clubface at address, mainly as a result of compensating a bit for the left. Often feels like if I shut it anymore at address I'm going to send it miles left.
