Effects of Hurricane Ian

Firstly, hopefully all Floridians on here have managed to keep safe and haven't suffered too much damage due to Ian.

 

We were due to fly out tomorrow for the start of our vacation which included playing Sawgrass.  This has been cancelled by our airline due to the state of emergency and airports being closed.

We do have an opportunity to fly later date so just have a quick for few questions which hopefully some locals may be able to help with:

 

1: Our Sawgrass booking had a 7 day cancellation policy (due to play this Sunday).  Obviously we are past the cancellation date but I'm not sure how Hurricane Ian effects the validity of this policy.  Unfortunately no one at all is in the pro-shop and no one is answering emails.  

Just wondering if common sense will prevail or whether we would still be charged for these tee times?

 

2: How long would you expect it to take for golf course to get back to playing conditions?  Apologies but being from the UK I'm not really sure how long hurricane recovery would take as its not really something we encounter.  We don't really want to book again too early if the golf courses aren't ready.

My guess is that if the reason for the late tee time cancellation was that your flight was cancelled due to the Hurricane, the course will give you my a refund.

 

Regarding course recovery times, it will vary from course to course  influenced a lot by location. I think some courses in the Orlando area have already reopened. Many will be cart path only.

 

Curious to know if you've heard from TOC Sawgrass

TPC Sawgrass have been brilliant actually, they got in touch with me yesterday and cancelled without any charges being incurred.

Although they don't have an official wait list the Pro said he would keep an eye out for any other upcoming cancellations and let us know.

 

Very professional and I know I probably shouldn't have worried but it was a big chunk of money for us to lose.

 

Obviously not meant to be for us this time but we will get to Sawgrass eventually.
