Callaway Epic Forged Successor

Recommended Posts

I’m assuming Callaway isn’t releasing a new generation of the Epic Forged as it’s been nearly 4 years since this iron released. The Epic Forged was an incredible iron for me…I have a very short backswing and I achieve club head speeds with this iron that I have not been able to reach with anything else. The Epic Max Star seems to be all about the shaft and not so much the club head.

Does anyone know of a similar setup in terms of a lightweight head/shaft combo to increase club head speed?

No rumours I've seen anywhere od a new equivalent.

I'm using these at the moment. Great club, alrhough i need to look at reshafting mine.

On specs alone, the new Mizuno Hotmetals have similar strong lofts. Personally i always felt the Epic was built to compete with PXG. So that would be a good starting point.

that iron was a real head scratcher imo, when realeased the youtube guys were going mad about the 4 iron being 18 or 19 degrees and being like a supercharged UDI.

i actually had forgotten about that line tbh, is that the model that came with 4 set wedges?

other than different & newer shafts what is the difference in the standard Epic, Mavrik & Rogue ST line irons? all those type of SGI clubs have super hot faces with tech in the heads and juiced lofts with the 4 iron being the same loft as an X Forged UT 18 degree.

i know i wasnt the intended customer for that line & being the Callaway man i am not going to bash them, but wasnt that line a sort of one off to compete against PXG when their prices were high & i think Titleist had a prototype iron thing that cost heaps like a PXG as well so Cally decided to jump on board and do a money grab as well, could be wrong and they may have sold like hotcakes but thats what jumped out at me when they were released.

Definitely designed to compete with PXG. They are super fast and launch high and fast relative to loft. They also look good behind the ball, with 8-wedge looking significantly smaller at address.

I can only tell you I liked them because they got me hitting irons to my older distances, while adding forgiveness as I play less often, and they look good without huge amounts of offset.

From a product point of view it gives the designers chance to test technologies, and then figure out how to make them cheaper for more mainstream lines.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
