Sub $10k Sim

Edit: Updated with pictures! More to come. I've played a couple rounds on it. Everything is working great thus far. As you can tell the garage is still a work in progress from moving but that will all get sorted very soon!

 

Hey Gents, 

 

I wanted to start a thread on here to document the build of my simulator which will be used for winter play, general practice, kids use and family movies occasionally. I also plan to host a winter “league” with friends. 
 

Room Specs: 

29’ 6” Width with 20’ depth in garage. I will use about 18-19’ of wall space opposite the garage door. 
 

Screen Specs:

Stealth Retractable Impact Screen with 10’ side extension all remote controlled ($3,700). This will be mounted as close to the wall as I can get it without impact on the wall. Any spacing recommendations?

 

Hitting Mat: 

Ez Tee Hybrid 6’x6’ - $690

 

Projector- Optoma - HZ39HDR 1080p Laser Projector - $1300

 

Launch Monitor: Full Swing Kit purchased here- $2700.

 

I plan to install 1/2” padded floor tiles throughout the space and lay a cheap turf over it. I will run the projector using Apple TV and link it to an iPad I already have. Planning to use E6 software unless 3rd party software (specifically GSPro) becomes available for FSK which is doubtful. Will be mounting a 75” Tv to the wall for football and general viewing. 
 

I close on the house in the next 2-3 weeks and have deliveries lined up to start showing up 2-3 days after we move. Very excited for the first Thursday night beer league starting Dec 22nd! 
 

Any recommendations throw them out there! Any must haves, cool stuff for your sim, leave a link.

Is that 18'x20' then? With 8"-12" behind the screen and 10' behind the ball for Kit, that's not a lot of flight for indoor radar - unless you have the ceiling clearance to use the side wall instead, since Kit isn't going to be sitting there permanently.

8’-10’ for Kit indoor use (their video specifically states 8’ while other sources say 10’), but you can get away with 7’. Testing has produced little to no difference when compared directly against a GC2 (less than 0.5% difference). Regardless, I’ll set it as far back as I can and make it work. I will also install a ~5’ curtain on the ceiling for wedges and such.

My garage set up is oriented the short way in a 2 car garage that’s 20 x16. Carls screen is about 16 inches from the wall. The gray curtains are now replaced with hang nets that slide back. I can move the Skytrak and laptop out of the way to park my car.

Can’t wait to hear review, I’m starting process in building Sim room, would like to hear reviews on Full Swing sim play. I have read about the numbers part but I’m more interested in playing golf than the numbers

Set is nice and basic, what software do you use to play Sim golf.

I’m using TGC 2019 on the Skytrak. Tons of courses.

I bought a Lenovo laptop off Amazon. I waited for a decent deal, so Black Friday deals might be out there. It’s a decent machine but only used for the golf simulator.

Updated with pictures. Its not perfect, but its getting there! Still getting settled in the new house and garage organization is pretty low on the list but it'll get squared away soon. I've played a couple rounds on the sim and am loving it thus far. No issues with the Full Swing Kit. I've got the ball 8' from the screen and the FSK 10' from the ball. I've had very few issues with the FSK picking up the strike. I'm using Titleist RCT balls with normalization on. E6 is a little foreign feeling but I'll adjust. I wish GSPro was available. It sounds like Full Swing will be introducing their software to use with the FSK sometime this year, maybe that will be better. All and all very happy with this setup so far. One down side if I had to pick one is I should have gone for something more like 12' wide instead of 16'.  Its huge and the weight of the screen makes it sag just a hair in the middle.

@shanerbanner10 What software are you using with FSK. I have yet to see anyone post anything about playing Sim with this FSK. Like everyone else been trying to decide on Sim. But I have been looking at the full Sims from Full swing.

Sorry Pens - you asked about the retractable screen in a different thread - Top Shelf got it to me in a week $2100. 80 pounds in weight.

I’m using E6 currently. I believed FS is releasing their software for their in home sims for the Kit at some point this year.
