Swing advice.

I took about 5 years off of golf. Been working really hard to get a swing back together. I've noticed I'm a lot shorter on all of my clubs now and my swing speed is about 10+mph slower than what it used to be.

I'm trying to figure out what is fundamentally wrong with my swing that's holding up my speed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well, shortish backswing, rather flat with arms deep behind you. A more vertical plane would help but not the cause/solution imho. You appear to lack some athleticism.

 

I'd suggest you get a swing speed radar and discover how much real physical effort is required to move the clubhead at higher speeds. Whether you can apply that level of effort and still make solid contact is another matter.

From what you're putting into the hopper you are staying in the shot remarkably well, good job.    It somewhat reminds me of Craig Parry's swing, the one that would make Hogan puke, but Parry is solid. 

 

I would suggest first backing up just a little from the ball, tame the lead arm rolling over going back by making a back swing with the larger muscles of back, not your arms. You will eventually have to address wrist set probably, but try back swing first and see if by doing so it unpins the trail arm from being stuck where it is up top.

Hey thanks for the response. I actually wondered about that toward the top of my backswing. So you think it looks like I'm trying to complete the rest of my backswing with my arms instead of a little more torso rotation? 

 

Also, with the wrists setting. I have started fixing an issue I had with cupped wrists. Been going through montes no cast videos. Is there still something I could work on with my wrists there?

 

My trail elbow has caused issues for me and it's what I suspected was causing a lot of problems

 

Do you have any suggestions on what I should be feeling more of in the backswing/transition

Hard to tell as you have many good fundamentals right. Perhaps your trail arm is making your club get steep in the downswing and your are casting the ball. Maybe right arm not connecting well enough.

Your left arm also seems disconnected and across your chest.

Club works away from your body when you start your swing.. likely contributing to the disconnected left arm chicocrino mentioned. I’m no swing coach but I’d focus on creating depth initially in the takeaway. Should put you in a better spot at the top
