Ping i230 forgiveness vs older Ping i series

Seems like the last two generations of iseries have become more "playerish".  Have they decreased in forgiveness?  How forgiving are they relative to like the i20/i25 era?

I have 2 sets of i25's (one in FL). I still play i25 wedges (U and S and L, some of the best ever IMO). Think other than the i5's, the 25's were and still are one of the very best and most forgiving of the i series. I just got the i230's, and PING absolutely nailed these. Gorgeous, feel great, less offset, long enough, and to me, equal forgiveness to the 25's. I especially love the long irons and short irons in the 230's. As noted, they really got this set right.

Yeah I loved the i5s which were basically GI clubs.  What's your HC?

In pure physical science terms (looking at MOI), the i20, i25, and i200 were all essentially the same in forgiveness terms.  The main difference is the CG moving higher with the i200.  

 

The i210 bumped the MOI a little closer to the G series, though it's not a large move up.  The CG was bumped higher a little more.  Could be less than ideal for sweeper swings.

 

The i15 and previous had lowish CGs, but actually had a lower MOI than the Eye2.

Thanks that is helpful.  I was really only looking at it in terms of MOI not CG.  Now that you said that, as a sweeper, I may struggle with the higher CG in the newer models.

I'm not saying that the MPFs are "wrong" on the ping clubs, but the VCOG measurements on the i210, i59 etc seem very wrong to me. They're obscenely easy to get in the air and compress. Tons of players can use i210 from tour pros up to 15 and even higher HC. No way the CG is that far about the equator of the ball IMO.

Yes this review showed i230 doing very well on low strikes.

I am a 10, been as low as an 8 and high as a 12 or 13. Weakness is driving -- at times inconsistent 2 way miss (usually left though), strength is iron play and short game and putting. On good driving days, usually can break 80 once or twice a month.

I stated in the the big i230 thread that my first impression was that Ping went back to the i20/i25 look with these. I believe that’s why I instantly felt comfortable with them. Played i20s for 4 years, quick stint with i200 that I didn’t like as much and back to the i25 for 2 more years. To me, the i230s are significantly easier to hit than the 20/25 in the long irons and about the same in the short irons. They also launch higher for me.
