Pulling on butt of club.

I’ve been experimenting a while with different swings - primarily with grip and how the arms rotate going back as well as different wrist angles. I’ve found the method which is most consistent in terms of ball strike is having a very strong grip with a reasonable amount of extension at setup. I then swing back (primarily with my left arm) without any twisting of the club shaft clockwise or anti-clockwise whatsoever.  From the top I simply pull hard on the butt if the club  towards the target (not directly down) while rotating hard. The release is naturally more held off. I’m sure there is some natural rotation of the club shaft but I’m not doing it consciously. More often than not I hit it well and straight however at times the face can be a smidge open so I get a weak fade with it. is this an advised way of swinging or should there be at least  some rotation of the shaft? My handicap is currently languishing around 18-20.

Nice swing for an 18 handicap. You should have a much lower stroke index.

 

I would never advise gripping hard. Without enough lightness in the grii pressure its hard to release the club. Thats probably why you sometimes push it right.

 

The only real problem I see a backup and lift in the early part of the backswing. My wife does this. It can sometimes cause a steepening of the club in transition. Notice how at impact the butt of the club is raised compared to address. I would work on keeping that left shoulder down in the backswing and lossening the grip a touch. That way the club can release and square a little more so you dont hit that right shot.
