Choosing the right club in 1964 VIA Doug Sanders Compact Golf

I’ve been teaching myself to golf with only vintage clubs and vintage books.  I recently tracked down a copy of Compact Golf and it has some great advice. Doug explains how his swing is suited for weekend golfers and after adding some of his tips to my swing I’d have to agree. 
 

Anyway, I love old diagrams and here’s one I find interesting as a man who stands 6’2” and plays standard vintage length clubs, well standard Spalding length which was slightly longer.  

 

Also, all these old books have these distance charts that always make me feel better about the distances I get with the older clubs.

Well, if you were a true believer you’d travel to work in a vintage car and leave yourself less time for the old books.

It says to me that no one should be using a 46 inch driver unless they are 7 feet tall, and I think that is good advice. 

 

I have a copy of that book as well.  I have to wonder if Allen Doyle read it when he was a young player.  His setup and swing is very similar to Doug Sanders.
