Conventional putting with an armlock?

In a bid to revive my putting from 6ft and in I bought a second hand Cobra Armlock 

 

I’ve had a couple of sessions on the practice green and bizarrely, lag putting has been good but short putting has been rubbish! I’m really struggling with lining the putter up 

 

So, after tonight’s dismal session, I thought I’d try and putt conventionally with it and use it a sort of counter balance putter 

 

what a difference! Much easier to align and with the extra grip length above my standard gripping style, the stroke seemed much smoother.

 

Now I’m aware that an armlock putter has more loft than a traditional putter, but would it make that much difference? It putted really nicely and the feel was good 

 

Has anyone else tried this or am I going to have a problem with the extra loft making the ball jump off the face?

Armlock putters have more loft, more weight and can have a different lie angle.  All of these have an impact.  I think you would be better off trying a counterbalance putter with close to or the same length as the armlock, as you seem to prefer a longer putter.  There is always exception, but I think you will have a hard time being consistent with this approach in the long run.  Good luck

There are people with 5-7° of loft on their standard putter because of how they impact the ball and or the conditions they play. Like putter length the loft that many claim as "standard" is not standard by any means, some need more, some need less. Maybe using the arm lock in a traditional method the extra loft is helping your stroke? 

 

I'd maybe try a longer counter balanced putter since you feel comfortable with it but see if you can have some extra loft bent into it or find a cheap armlock and cut it down and try that out. Sounds like a thing you have to experiment with.
