HELP with Speed!

Recommended Posts

92 x 1.36 = 125 🤷🏻‍♂️

1.36 is a good smash factor for a 7i

if this is a driver, you missed the middle by quite a ways.

Its a driver and i agree that paticular shot was missed a bit. Most of them i hit today was in this range but even this ball speed you would think should be in upper 130s.  7 out of 10 shpts the SF was in the 1.40s

On the course my Driver distance is in the 240-250 range. And if it helps i do normally strike them pretty good as im a 6hcp. Im just trying to pick up some speed both SS and BS to put me in the 260 range

Remember, Smash Factor is Ball Speed divided by Swing Speed.

If you want 260 total yards your going to need to bring that swing speed up closer to 100 while maintaining good contact.

Or move to the mountains.

Unfortunately the Appalachians aren't that high lol  I played Red Tail Mountain just north of Boone, NC a few years ago and didn't get much boost lol.

I play pretty regularly with a 65y/o who did the super speed stick thing and is definitely hitting the ball farther. Always made good contact to begin with though. Efficiency before speed.

Swung 10 times today with 8 of them having Smash factor around 1.45 SS Avg 90, ball speed was basically around 130. Ive just got to find a way to get my SS up. Of course now im almost 50yrs old and i have some back issues but i feel like i have 95-96 left in the tank. If i could swing that with course conditions Roll out ect.. i feel i could get in that 250-260 range. My total on course right now is usually 240-250 total. Again just got to find a way to gain 5-7 more mph. Some of my SS readings are 92mph but thats all ive seen i have, can't seem to get above that number.

Keep swinging!  2 years ago I was 87-88 SS, last year in the low 90s.  Bought a Stack System a couple of months ago and can get to 97 mph now.  Hit 100 once. I'd like to consistently be over 100mph by the end of the summer.  I also have been hitting the gym a couple of times per week.

For me, I like to look up a lot of the long drive stuff on youtube.  What has really helped me specifically is learning to push off the lead foot to start my swing and then push off the trail foot while it feels like I’m only about halfway through the backswing.  The effect is that the pressure is returned to the lead foot much earlier and then I’m able to drive it down to the earth which of course doesn’t move.  It just goes back up the chain and as long as I don’t get in my own way, generally returns a far higher swing speed than I was getting last season.  I also spend several sessions a week swing the driver with and without hitting a ball at max effort and checking progress with a radar.  Speed can be learned for sure.

Forget smash factor and swing speed. As someone said above the smash factor is just a ratio of ball speed to club speed and the club speed data is generally not very accurate on cheap monitors. Ball speed is the only metric that will tell you your distance potential and will be 99%+ accurate on almost every launch monitor including the one you are using.

If you actually want to be hitting it 250yds consistently you are going to need ball speeds of 150+mph. Ball speeds in the mid 130's are where tour players are at with their 7i. Expect real world carry distances in the 180-200yd range. I'm sure every once in a while it will run out 50yds but that does not mean you are in the 240-250yd range as an expected distance.

With a device like this, it'll give you predicted ball speed, so as others say, you mishit it and it's taken a lot of distance off.

I use the same device, but i use it for doing speed training on the driver, so going as fast as i can to get clubhead speed and not worry too much about ball speed, focusing on the whoosh after the ball and hitting about 30-50 drivers 3 times a week.

As others say, you need to get the clubhead speed up to get to 150 ball speed, best way i've seen is get faster, then get control.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
