Putter Swingweights

Messing around this afternoon after looking up some of the common putter swing weights got me thinking about how over time I've progressed to heavier putter heads.   Read that the standard swingweight for most putters is between C8 and D8 where as on tour they’re in the E's pretty commonly. 

 

I have 4 putters currently with 135g lagp shafts that swing weight around C8 and D0. 

 

I swing weighted my college putter that is a Cameron studio 1.5.  I definitely had the most time spent with this putter and it was C1 with a 335g head weight and all standard Cameron parts - .382 fluted shaft - baby t etc. 

 

My putter with the KBS one step still falls into the C8 swing weight category.   

 

Thought it was coincidental all my putters basically swing weighted the same but most are 350g head weights with 135g shafts at 34" of play length.  Guess on the plus side everything seems to be consistent from my backyard club building skill.  I was curious what the difference in swing weight would be between the graphite options and my two steel shafted putters - turns out no much with the aftermarket steel shaft.

Most of mine fall in the D5.5 to D7.5 range with stability/lagp/one step shafts. Haven’t measured the Newport though since I swapped in a fuji shaft. All head weights are 345-350g and they play around 34-35”. Can’t imagine going heavier in to the E range.

I believe they are all 34”, 34.5”, or 34.75”

 

 I’ll have to measure again as you have me wondering.

I like the the C3-6 range with 348-350 head weight, 521-528 total weight and 33” long. Don’t forget about total weight as this is important too.

Absolutely.  All mine are between 545 and 555 total surprisingly.  Heavy green star grip bumped three of them up.
