KLPGA Doosan matchplay championship.

Don't know if this is the right place but would like to give a shout out for the Doosan Matchplay held at the stunning Ladena golf club north of Seoul and unusually a five day tournament with players competing initially in pools,the winners going through to the later knock-out stages on Saturday and Sunday,so a test of stamina as well as golfing skills and strategy.

Reigning Champion Hong Jung Min is through along with favourites Park Min Ji,Ji Han Sol,Lim Hee Jeong and Park Hyun Kyung after some tense sudden-death matches.

I was sorry to see Lee Ye Won and Bang Shin Sil depart,two very different yet entertaining players,I'm hoping that Ji Han Sol can come good and have a bit of a soft spot for Park (can't stop I'm in a hurry!) Min Ji!

It's also one of my favourite courses on the KLPGA Tour and the greens look magnificent.

Yujin Sung steamrolled the competition, en route to her 2nd career KLPGA win, she best fan favorite HK Park in the finals.

Is it true... that "Hyun Kyung received a consolation prize of about US$2K for being named Ms. Photogenic"?

It's actually closer to US$1500...I took the lazyman's way of dropping the last 3 zeros, but that doesn't apply these days.

 

And it wasn't really a "consolation prize"... that was a joke. HK also got the runner-up award and would have gotten Photogenic no matter how she placed in the match play.

 

BTW, in addtion to Photogenic, some events have Best Dressed and Congeniality awards.

thanks @jumpcut for the clarification... the crowds at these KLGA events seem to outnumber some of the LPGA events ... so perhaps they are doing something right w.r.t. engaging supporters.

 

i use the same back-of-envelope "/1000" currency conversion rate for KRW-to-USD

Women's golf is probably a top 5 sport in Korea .. here in the states, top 50?

I think it's about the same for Japan..  Very Popular..
